Isn't his release clause £6m (Ramirez). I don't think we can offer over the odds for each and every target but at that fee, we could offer him a bit in excess in wages, especially if we are up against Atletico Madrid.

This will be the theme of the summer again, having to beat off competition, but that's how its going to be for good players.

€6m. Roughly £5.1m...

I'm kind of a slightly different view, i think we need to take some calculated risks Dave, not since Rooney has a teenage striker impressed me as much as this lad, be absolutely shocked if he doesn't make it to the very top of the game ((injuries or a ridiculous stupid career move aside), in a world where we are paying 12m for Lookman, 23m for Bolasie and where happy to stump up 30m for Sissoko - I'd not be worried if the club shelled out 35-40m on this lad (assuming a bit of that was clauses)

as for Tielemans - wasn't impressed by him vs United that much, besides that only seen him on compilation clips which are often very distorting - so would be fine with him, but i do have some doubts how ready he is atm

Dirk Kuyt rattled in 19 goals last season at 35. Kinda puts doubts on the level needed to score lots up there.

I'm with @davek . Huge gamble spending daft money on a 19 year old

In the context of those two signings £20M+ would be appropriate. I'm not sure a player so young and unproven gets a £30M move though. Maybe if he tears up the final against United others will think differently.

The main difference between the Belgian and Dutch league in general is that the former is more defensive oriented and the latter more attacking. It's easier to score goals in the Dutch league.

But in all fairness where would you put Tielemans at Everton he's a typical playmaker who's best in attacking tactics. One of the reasons he's struggling a bit lately. Lately RSCA sits back and breaks at pace. That's not his natural game. Well that and he had a child in March and honestly since then his output has been considerably less. Atm he'll get the odd assist etc but that's that.

Yesterday Tielemans won the Ebbenhouten Schoen.

Dendoncker can easily fit in at Everton without tweaking the tactics or personnel.
Oh I cant ever see Koeman's going for such a player. That wasn't my point. I was just saying that a player in that 'bubbling under' bracket would - given the hype around them - be out of our range now.

Problem is Dave, 20m+ won't get him, not even now, never mind in a year or two.

That's the conundrum that faces the owner, is he willing to spend what it takes to get the calibre of player needed, if a player has already done it in a 'big' league - then they will either not be attractable by us, or they will have 'bigger fish' after them - as they've shown they can do it already.

So we either take a risk on younger less proven but ones with that look that little bit special and we pay what is needed to get them - not stick rigidly to what we think they are worth - else frankly we won't get them, or we take cheapish punts on players like Deulofeu etc - 'broken prospects' for want of a better word. Or we go down the route of paying over the odds for 'proven' premiership standard players - who by and large will not be players that make much of a difference - great for going from 11th to 7th or 15th to 10th etc, but to bridge the gap you need genuine quality after that.

Back in 99' Arsenal took a similar 11m punt on a 21yo French lad called Henry - in modern fees etc what would that be - 40m+?

Word of warning on Klaassen, we already have an almost identical example to go off in Siem De Jong. Ajax captain aged 24, attacking midfielder, banged the goals in, looked good in Europe, signs for Newcastle, can't get a game, back in Holland on loan and banging them in again. It really is a poor league, and for every Van Persie there are 4 or 5 who get badly exposed.

Depay apart, how many Dutch players go for £30M+?

There's a limit you pay to that league. A 19 year old with one good season behind them doesn't get into that bracket mate.
