Summer Transfer Window 2017

Question is, we sold Lukaku for between what we want and what's bandied around as what Fee Chelsea etc are wanting.

We could if palace went down likely get Benteke, Dolberg, Ziyech and Sandro for the same amount, overall how stronger would we be?

To offer a fair and balanced view, potentially worse off as a result.

All of those could be a massive hit or they could be massive failures here. To remove a proven goalscorer and replace them with players who could be massive failures en mass would be far too big of a risk to guarantee success so to speak. That is not to say i wouldn't want us to take that risk, but benteke for example has stepped up a level and failed before going back down to relegation level teams. Dolberg could emulate Van Nistelroy/Suarez or he could emulate Kezman/Maccaroni. Sandro could well be a decent winger or could struggle with the change in leagues, the other lad Zeyich could be eriksen or could well be terrible.

My point is only that to offer a unbias view, we would not be stronger initially from making a deal such as that, and any strength we did develop would be both over a long term idea and the fact the majority of the players would have to adapt to a new league and step up in level as well. But as i mentioned i wouldn't be against the club taking such a risk as perhaps it is those sorts of risks we are needing to make to attempt to improve as a team overall.

Edit- i could well be getting maccaroni mixed up with another striker Boro bought. Alves was it? I can't remember now.

Erm since when isn't Benteke proven?

Lukaku is poor in the air for his size but he's not the reason our forwards don't make runs mate.

Blaming Rom for Barkley's and Kev's faults is a bit of a stretch.
What is weird though is he never seems to get near half the aerial balls outside the box but if he is in front of goal makes contact on a vast majority more even if he doesn't score. Whether he can't be bothered to challenge outside the box I have no idea but it is strange for someone as big as he is to win so few in the air.

Since he went to Liverpool and struggled.

Same as Siggurdson went to spurs and struggled.

You could argue that Benteke is only 'proven' when it's relegation battles.
Benteke is proven but you have to set your side up to suit him. Benteke joining Liverpool was like Sutton joining Chelsea years ago, pointless as they won't play a style to suit that player.

Linked with Dolberg and Klaassen in recent days, mention of Romagnoli from Milan too. Sandro Ramirez linked from Malaga.

That is some bizarre logic. He had a 1-in-3 strike rate for Liverpool in the league playing only 16 games worth of minutes. The reason he "struggled" was because they played the complete opposite style needed to get the best out of him.

Benteke is proven the same way Marshall is proven in goal for example.
Yes he is a very good goalscorer and yes, if the team is set up to play for him then he could well be a top striker playing more at our level.

But right now, he is as good a striker as marshall is as a goalkeeper. They only excel when at the bottom of the league. For the price Benteke would cost us also, i couldn't want us to take that risk on him repeating his Liverpool form for us.

Honestly think getting knocked out vs West Ham on his debut for us has really affected his psyche when it comes to aerial duels.

Kristof is normally reliable regarding the Belgians. Is Dendonkor a box to box midfielder or another DM? I thought it was Tielemans we were looking at.

I'm not solely blaming him but if you were a forward would you feel inclined to sprint past the defence every time a ball was knocked up to Rom? I sure as Hell would do it a lot more if Benteke was in my time as he's guaranteed to win most.
I think if I was one of the midfielders, or Rom, the first thing I would be doing is asking the manager why we seem so intent on playing so many of these aimless balls to him in the first place, seeing as he really isn't very good at doing anything with them.

Fair enough point to make, I think most players except say Messi, Ronaldo etc are gambles.
For me though I think we do need to be looking for alternatives to Lukaku, Benteke would suit Koemans style from a hold up point of view, something he tries with Lukaku sometimes, but Benteke needs crosses to pin down the full back and get headers on goal. We don't have that width now.

In terms of Dolberg, we need to be looking at these talents, they could save us about £30m in future, maybe even help us make £30m profit, see Romelu, Lescott, Rooney etc...

Sandro Ramirez for me is the gamble. Talented yet lightweight, who does that remind you of ?

We are at that point in the summer where we need a overhaul of about 7 players. We could do a spurs after bale window and change too much too quickly, or we could get together a proper squad capable of Europa league and premier league progression.

For me Benteke could be koemans pelle at everton.
