Summer Transfer Window 2017

Problem is though most keepers don't always save the shots they should be making 100% of the time. If they did we wouldn't need to replace Robles would we.
I pay quite a bit of attention to goalkeepers when I watch footy as I used to be one when I played, not saying I'm an expert obviously but I naturally look out for things they do and attributes that stand out. Not seen Pickford every single week but when I've seen him I've noticed he looks really composed for his age, when you compare him with a 23 year old Robles who would flap at everything and make you nervous every time the ball went near him. Pickford doesn't suffer from this, he looks a lot more experienced than he actually is. He's also really good at holding shots and crosses, only parries if he absolutely has to but most of the time when he can get two hands to a shot, he'll hold it. An underappreciated skill that, De Gea is the master of it. Pickford looked dodgy against us, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt after coming back from injury!

Things like decision making in terms of coming out for crosses or coming out to close down angles, I haven't seen an error from him as yet in that department. He has all the makings of a top keeper, obviously he has a long way to go to get to that level but the ability is there. Reminds me of a young Joe Hart when he first broke through at City.

I'm not saying we shouldn't buy him, I'm really saying that I think we need to do our homework very carefully because 23 is young for a keeper and we could do without a player who still needs to go through making a lot of mistakes to learn things.

I paid really close attention to him at Goodison and I wasn't particularly impressed. Looked nervous (admittedly I think he'd been out for a while before the game), his kicking was all over the place and some of the saves he made were dodgy. He also made some good ones, to be fair.

I was really hoping that we'd buy a keeper who was 26 or over and hadn't only had one full season in the league spent playing for the side who were rock bottom, as I think that makes it hard to judge him

He might turn out to be a great signing, but I think we'll have missed a trick if we take a punt on him now (as we'll give him a couple of seasons at least), it doesn't work out and we ignore the other available options currently. I guess you could say that of most transfers in fairness, I just think there's more of an unknown about Pickford than most of the names we've been linked with.

I don't think where we are right now, we can afford to wait until a player is established at the top level to go in for them, as by the time that comes there could be a shed load of top clubs interested and their prices will skyrocket. We will have to take a few gambles along the way and uncover some bargains, sometimes they might not come off but I'd be pretty confident we'd get value for money with this one.

Please @everton

Pickford would be a great signing. He was my first thought to replace our keeper.

I've watched him this season and he's ahead of Robles already and has far more potential than him.

At 23 with many years ahead of him, 17 mil is a good deal.

I reckon about £35m for our goalkeeper situation to be all sorted for the next 10 odd years is about right.

I agree, but there's that many other positions we need to strengthen that I can understand them spending half that amount on a player with similar potential who's a bit more raw.

Good post and will add two things to that analysis, he's pretty fast off his line as well, and his kicking is probably the best I've seen from a keeper for a long time.

If we are as minted as we claim then it's nothing in the long run.

I'd pay it now if I could.

It actually is, he hit a couple of laser passes against us. Has great technique with his volleys especially.
