I'm sorry he isn't in the same class as lescott. Yes lescott was helped by having a top defender jagielka (in his prime) alongside him, but he was far far better than Mori.

If rom goes (which seems likely) I think he'll get plenty of game time.

I think Defoe would be happy as a squad player for a team with European football. He went to play in Canada ffs.

At 34 and his stature, he isn't going to be starting every week for many Prem teams. He must be sick of getting beat every week anyway.

He won't want to be second choice anywhere with the World Cup next year and him being in the last squad

I agree.

While not the quality of player i know most would like to see us after he does have quite a bit to recommend him. If Rom goes i think the most likely scenario is that we bring in a replacement from another league. That can be tricky in terms of settling in. Defoe would give us a proven plan b in the interim that can definitely score in our league.

If we bring in three striking options that look like 1) Quality player from foreign league 2) Defoe and 3) Younger/less proven with potential then that might work.

Hope Rom stays though (in which case i would still take Defoe to allow us to spend money elsewhere....GK, CB, AM)
