Summer Transfer Window 2017

No 2 ways about it...it's going to be tough. If any of the higher teams are after any of our targets then we will outsiders to get them. We have to go under the radar for a few. The better high profile players will always be targeted by the higher teams leaving us to probably get 2nd and 3rd choice targets. Just the rub of the green given our status.

This is true. People will be upset because we don't sign some players, but it's all about progress. We cannot compete with five/six teams in this league, plus more teams abroad, so it's about clever signings.

Many very good players out there.

Well, I think these are the players we might have to chase because we will get rinsed in the transfer market this summer for the players on the A list.
And paying 15mil for Brady is not getting rinsed. I would play the under 23's than waste money on a no mark like him

Keeping one or both of Ross and Rom is absolutely key to our summer, it's going to be hard enough to attract the players we want with them both at the club, harder still if they've gone. One thing I think we all need to do is accept our place in the world right now, we cannot compete financially with City, Chelsea and United and lack of CL is another problem. If United are in for Keane the chances are we won't get him, or anyone else that those clubs are chasing, so our transfer strategy must be to go for highly promising but unproven types (Delli Ali, Gueye) and those players (Schniederlin, Ramsey) who have fallen out of favour at the top clubs. Just my ten bobs worth.

What would actually constitute a ludicrous offer though, also I wouldn't be shocked if gueye had a release clause mate, right now he is definitely third choice in centre mid for us so don't think it's as certain as you think especially if koeman qabtscto add goals to that part of the team.

We aren't selling him. He's 'third choice' CM in a side that plays 3 CMs.

We're going to be in Europe and more than likely starting the season in July.

He's absolutely key to how Koeman wants to play.

Not going anywhere.

We need starters not squad players though! There is no guarantee that any of these players will make the grade and non of them will come cheaply. Tammy Abraham could be the next Patrick Bamford or Luke Garbutt for all we know.

Besides why would Chalobah move from being on loan all the time to come to us and do the same?

Exactly.

As it stands, I'd say we need players to come in to the starting XI in the following positions:

- Goalkeeper (i.e. anybody except Robles or Stek, for the sake of argument, Heaton)
- Centre-back (i.e. Keane, VVD)
- Left forward/attacking mid/playmaker (i.e. Sig)

That's as it stands, with the players we currently have available and going with our usual 4-3-3 style system.

Now, you then factor in the European football element, and back-ups etc.

- Striker (Valencia may well stay but isn't a back-up No.9), we could do with a player who can come in and do a good job anywhere across the front-line and chip in with 10 goals at least over the course of the season

- Centre-back - Suppose it depends on who if any of the current lot are sold, but we need 4 good CBs who are ready to play in either a 3 or a 4 at the back. Holgate and Pennington are of course CBs, but Pennington just doesn't seem good enough yet to be relied on if needed for a sustainable amount of time. Holgate will be playing RB a lot due to Seamus' injury.

- Left-back - Somebody to come in who would perhaps be a rotation option but who will obviously play a lot of games and has the quality to not mean we miss Baines.

I think those six, realistically, are the key areas. Three for the starting XI and three as squad options.

You could add in as possibilities:

- Right-back - Seamus is gonna be out until Xmas at least, so we may need cover. However, I think RK will give Holgate and Kenny the chances in pre-season to show they can cover it between them.

- Winger - An alternative for Bolasie perhaps.

However, that's with the squad staying pretty much in the state it is at the moment, which it probably won't do.

I agree but in the world we live in, signing players under the radar is becoming increasingly unlikely. It's more a case now of taking a calculated risk on a player that may have been rejected or not considered by a bigger club.

With all these databases and player analysis systems that exist, there must be tens of thousands of senior players, and many more U-18s. The data available is mind boggling.

There is still a gap for us for players probably under the age of 25, who would be good enough to join a club like Man City but would be concerned at lack of playing time/stagnation in their career. We need hungry players like that, its not about them settling for lower wages, we have enough resources to offer most players outside the elite band an offer that is very competitive with a higher chance of playing in a team that has progressive management and looks to give youth a chance too.

I would imagine that we have a core list of 2-4 players for every position under consideration, that might amount to a list of 25-30 players of whom we might look to sign 6-8.

I imagine the club is well down the road in sounding-out the agents for the players targeted by now, the big imponderable is simply their reaction to our interest. We can improve over last summer in avoiding duplication and emphasising the positive aspects of joining Everton.

Ultimately though, we can't spend weeks on end going after lost causes. Witsel messed us around for 6-8 weeks last summer and it always seemed we were little more than mere backup if other plans went wrong. I'm not saying we should make "take it or leave it" offers either but there is a balance to be found.

To land what are genuine targets and not have to work down the list too much, we are going to have to work hard, very hard. In building relationships with agents, in presenting our case to players, and in offering competitive and sometimes inflated wages.

There is no alternative to hard work, organisation, and plenty of money.

Thats not remotely true!

You nthink he gets into the team ahead of either Schneiderlin or Davies if we play a two man midfield mate? subbed off at half time twice in the last 7 games and when we went with dropping one of the centre mids to bring Barry in then he was the one left out the team.

First 19 games of this season he played the full 90 16 times and missed a total of 41 minutes in the other 3 - each time when we where losing and he was subbed off.

Last 10 games hes played in since the AFCON and his rest after it, played the full 90 5 times, missed a total of 198 minutes in those games

Since Davies broke through into the team his importance has clearly diminished (as frankly has his form since and shortly before he went the AFCON)

Which of our "champion" young players can we see playing a role next season as this will affect our transfer plans. Koeman recently said he would rather have young players than deadwood....
  • Unless we can get a quality, young left-back that is better than Galloway I think we can leave Baines' replacement until next year. I still have faith in Galloway, maybe not so much in Garbutt.
  • Kenny - would like to see him get some game time no that it is very unlikely we can catch 6th place.
  • Holgate - would like to see him being used at CB and RB in Europa.
  • Pennington - no harm to the lad, but I think he needs a season or 2 on loan to prove himself.
  • Browning - not impressing at PNE by all accounts. Maybe another loan to a championship club
  • Dowell - would have thought he would have got a chance this season. Surely he deserves a run out in the next few games
  • Sambou - seems to be impressing from reports. Surely worth a place on the bench ahead of Kone!?
  • Walsh - difficult to get into our midfield at present. Maybe Europa/League Cup next year?
  • Williams - see above
  • Baningime - Unsy was praising him - this normally happens before first team exposure?

Don't think he will either, but i would also not be shocked if he did mate, part of the reason we play 3 centre mids though is we don't have the players to adequately play another system realistically.

Not sure he is key to the way Koeman wants to play actually mate, bet my bottom dollar Koeman wants more tactical discipline in a player which Gueye for all his brilliant qualities lacks badly at times.

Anyway my point before getting sidetracked was more about the lack of goals from our central midfield putting huge pressure on the rest of the team to produce - which we have failed badly to do

Which is why we should target these players now, instead of scrapping it out with other mid table clubs when we lose out to our main signings.
