Keane or Gibson are very very similar IMO, long as we brought in a better (and more experienced) centre back alongside them i'd be happy as a pig in mud

Yes I would agree. I wonder if we will go for Manolas or De Vrij who he has worked with before? I think it will be very hard to get Van Dijk but I can see us slapping in a big bid for him at the very least. A lot of Liverpool fans seem to think they are going to get him for 35 million is or 15 + Sakho. If we bid 45/50 million for him that will blow them out of the water.

I disagree, obviously injuries are a worry with Ramsey. But I'm not sure RK is convinced about the midfield 3 he's played recently moving forward. Taking gana off twice at half time. Unfair to criticise davies at 18, who will be a great player. But he can be sloppy in possession. And for all Gana's ability to get about the pitch, win the ball, break up play. He offers nothing in the final 3rd.

Ramsey can offer a lot more of threat going forward. RK was raving about him at the Euros and had him in his team of the tournament.

Regardless (but especially so if he goes) of Lukaku being here or not next season, we badly need to add goals across the rest of the team, if we stick with the 4-3-3 kind of system then where are those besides from Lukaku gonna come from.

Schneiderlin won't chip in with many, Gueye doesn't either, Davies will get the odd one here or there but as of now can't be counted on for more than a half dozen for a full season really at most, Barkley, Mirallas, Lookman or any of the other more forward players aren't exactly prolific or reliable to chip in with goals either.

having two central midfielders who don't score anything is fine if your Chelsea with Hazzard, Willien, Pedro and Fabregas all capable of double figures, but we don't have that.

Depends mate, i think Koeman is ultimately a pragmatist and not really wedded to any one shape as his 'prefect' formation to play, for example about a third of Mane's games last season for saints he played him as a second striker rather than wide, IF we have a manager who won't go for a attacking midfielder no matter the quality though because he can't play wider then it's not exactly a ringing endorsement of Koemans flexibility,

No I agree and the one thing you'd have to say of Koeman is he's not inflexible. However As a squad we have struggled for 2 & 1/2 years with the 4-2-3-1 formation and found some consistency going 4-3-3 or 3-4-3. I'm not sure I'd be willingly going back to that.

That being said maybe he could play in a wide forward position? Or if Ross goes he would be an ideal replacement.

Yes that is a good assessment. As I've said previously I half wonder about Gueye and if someone were to come in with a big bid if we'd consider letting him go. I know Arsenal were linked and if Ramsay came the other way with some cash it would be a very tempting deal for Koeman/Walsh.

Think we might see a hell of big turnover in players this summer, don’t think Koeman will have any particular favourites. Could see Barkley, Lukaku and possibly even Gueye this summer leaving.

I imagine the team starting next season will look massively different to the one we have seen this year. I think he plans to build the team around Schneiderlin, whether this be 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 or otherwise I think he will be the constant. Then I imagine we will get one of Keane/Maguire/Gibson and then somebody like Manolas/VVD/De Vrij. Leaving us room to let go of Jagielka and RFM, Williams and Holgate as CB cover.

we struggled with that formation entirely because we have never had a genuine playmaker mate, ross is more dynamic and struggles when he's played in that role

liverpool won't get VVD, and yeah Saints will sell him for 15m les than other teams will be willing to pay, or take a player with the rs are desperate to get shut of off them

Two things i would bet would be both Schneiderlin and Davies are gonna be central to the way we structure the team

It just looks a bit 'odd' with schneiderlin deep and then Gueye and Davies.

I was thinking that the past couple of games. Obviously it wouldn't be Davies or schneiderlin to make way for anyone coming in and that would just leave Gueye. Ideally you'd want someone more attack minded like a Tielemans perhaps but that being said, Gueye's stats are incredible and its 'odd' as well to even think about leaving him out...

Personally I think at this time and as starters, Davies and Schneiderlin are the only two guaranteed to stay other than a few of the kids.

I think there is a decent chance we might get Nicolai Jorgensen as one of two strikers if Lukaku goes.

The connections will be in place with Feyenoord and he has all the attributes that Koeman seems to like.

I would prefer someone with a decent record in a better league to come in alongside him, but he would be a good option nonetheless.
Not good enough at all

They would concede less by being better defensively, which is my point. They have a poor squad I agree but they have still used 28 players compared to Boro 27 and Burnley 26.
You could argue their best players are in defence - Maguire, Robertson, Dawson, Ranocchia, Davies, so if Maguire was as good as is mentioned, playing in the area with their best players then surely they should have conceded less goals?

How do you point the finger at Gibson and Boro, they have done their job keeping the ball out of the net, they have one of the best defensive records in the league. The reason they are going down is they can't score

Point is you can't blame one player for an entire sides defensive problems.

You put either player in our side, they'll concede less.

Personally, I've seen Keane and Gibson get rinsed this season by teams on individual mistakes. I haven't seen that with Maguire.

But that's irrelevant imo as Im not overly excited about spending £20mill on one of them

It's great having a amazing amount of energy in the middle and defensively sound players, but it only works if your scoring from other places, right now, if Lukaku has a off day, then thats kind of it of us in the game, Davies 'may' start adding more goals to his game, you never know as he's still only a kid himself. but so far the other 2 in the 4-3-3 up front (wide) arent providing anywhere near enough currently, so need to find a way to get them to produce more OR/AND add goals to central midfield.

A midifled of say Schneiderlin - Davies - Ramsey with Lukaku Barkley and Sigurddson ahead would provide a hell of a lot more creativity and goals, BUT to do that you'd need to upgrade the back four significantly else we'd start shipping a lot more without Gueye in the team i'd guess, then again, we'd lack pace in that as well... Guess this manager lark isn't as easy as it first looks

I also wouldn't 100% rule out us selling someone no one thinks we would do, such as Gueye either mate, especially if we get a substantial offer for a player we got very cheap, and if we knew we could get another player in who fits what the manager wants etc better.

Not saying it's likely - but wouldn't be shocked if something like that happened

We will 100% start to try to develop and sell on younger players to a degree, the hope is we sdo so on our terms, sell the ones we don't deem good enough to the level we want to be at but whom others regard as good signings for them etc. (Ibe was a good example from the rs of that)

Names like Sigurddson and Ramsay are ones at the level we could realistically attract right now, the level above them is what proved the stumbling block last summer

No chance we're selling Gueye.

I know it was just an example, but it ain't happening barring a ludicrous offer.
