What does it say about giving people 2nd chances.
Andre gray grew up around gangs, made a few wrong choices, and wasent in general a good person. But he was the product of his enviroment, crack head mother, didnt know his dad. His only authority figure was his grandad who then died when he was 13 Young talented kid looking for authoritive figures, its very easy to get caught up in that sort of stuff.
The big change for him was his move from non league to brentford he got away from his 'friends' and influences. Grew up alot and made a success of his career.
He has made mistakes but seeing were he has come from, i would say he has learned the hard way

I get all that, but he was about 23 when he made those tweets, not an angry adolescent. It's a tough decision and I don't necessarily agree with not signing him on that basis but do think it's a worthwhile consideration. Everton have a strong and positive reputation which is an important consideration.

Don't care. He was old enough to know what he was saying and stupid enough to not understand the repercussions. Don't want him anywhere near the club tbh - would suit them thugs across the park. Plus he's not a very good footballer.

Devil's Advocate here (as I'm not sure I want Gray anywah), we are giving Jose Baxter a contract this summer. What message does that send with regard to our reputation? We can be forgiving and hand 2nd chances to people like him but not to Gray?

Not to derail the thread too much, but I'd place struggling with addiction and inciting homophobic violence in wildly different categories.

Edit: also, one example is offering a path of redemption to one of our own who took a wrong turn, the other is cynically turning a blind eye to genuinely disgusting behaviour in order to mildly improve the playing squad. Seems very different to me in that respect too.
