Would you not like another option upfront?
In the way Koeman wants to play, DCL is the only target man we have currently.
Thats why I think we have to take a gamble.
When that option is probably an inferior player to DCL up front mate then i don't see the point, it would be spending money to appear to have not completely and utterly screwed up the biggest thing we needed to do
We would just be left with a 30m player sitting on the bench as he's crap, or being shoehorned in because of the fee - and next summer we'd be faced with trying to find a mug desperate to take an expensive flop on high wages from us - exactly like we have had for a year and a half with Niasse, but magnify the fee by 2-3 times and the wages by 2.
Spurs did exactly that with Sissoko last season (lucky escape for us)
We aren't looking for the replacement for Valencia and Kone here - so we shouldn't be shopping at that standard, we are looking to replace Lukaku - so it HAS to be of a certain quality or else we failed simple as.
What your suggesting is exactly what West Ham do every season close to deadline, just throw money at some random striekr who once was tipped as being decent and hope it works or that the fans fume is quietened until a couple of weeks/months in when they see how bad he is, by which time it's too late for them to complain
