As it stands right as of now, our major interest and activity seems to be trying to get the best possible fee for the last remaining very talented player remaining from when Koeman took charge.
Whatever the variety of reasons for players being sold (and as of now the sell to buy brigade have every rigth to state this is the major reason for sales - and nothing has effectively changed besides us receiving such a huge fee that it enabled a misdirection on that fact by the numbers brought in with that Lukaku money)
BUT it is unmistakable that once Lukaku was sold the transfer activity ground to an absolute halt, sigurdsson deal aside which frankly became a bit of a pantomime and seemed to absorb every last persons interest involved in transfer activity at the club.
as of right now, i would pick ;last seasons Everton team with Barkley and Lukaku in it to beat the current one, i also think that clubs below us have strengthened the teams or will do so in the remaining couple of days more than we have, all besides Arsenal above us have strengthened better than we have as well, and throw in the extra European games we will have this season and i can see us points wise slipping down on last year and 2-3 teams below improving significantly.
Pointed out a whilst ago that as of this moment we are an injury away from a Martina/Jagielka/Williams/Baines back 4 and with no recognized striker.
Removing the blue tinted specs, if it was another team with our squad and with our business this summer in 7th that we where chasing i would feel they had weakened and would hope to catch them, and that is a big worry
I think that may be an overly negative view.
I agree that Lukaku and Barkley missing do certainly weaken us, but,
I think our goalkeeping situation is much improved.
I think Keane has greatly improved us in central defence.
I think Rooney has brought a lot to the team that was not there before.
I think the return of Coleman and Bolasie will certainly bring a lot to the team when they return.
I think in the longer term we will see that Sandro, Klaasen and Sigurrdsson will settle and play valuable roles.
I do agree the addition of a quality striker is key. I think that is the piece of the jigsaw that is missing and if put in place will leave us substantially stronger than last year.
If that striker isn't signed then all the good work over the summer will just seem flat.
