The whole "enticing big players" is somewhat of a chicken and egg argument.
It comes down to things we can control (contract terms and positioning of the club) vs. things we can't (bids and offers from rival clubs, player and agent reaction etc).
I would like to think that the relative disappointments last summer were largely down to Koeman and Walsh being new and appointed late, particularly in Walsh's case) to their roles. Added to this they both had to adapt to and deal with Kenwright and Elstone so inevitably there seemed to be an overlap and confusion. That simply cannot have been conducive to a more impressive hit-rate in signing the players we wanted.
Clearly, there are a group of elite players and perhaps many in the immediate tier below, that are out of our reach.
I don't accept though, and never have, that we are not an attractive proposition to that very large pool of players who would offer better than what we have currently.
I hope the problems of last summer were not lost on Moshiri and that this time around, we have streamlined our operation and are already well down the road in trying to get signings in.
Spurs were able to sign Luka Modric well before they had UCL football. It's players of that ilk - on the rise but perhaps not quite the finished article, who would improve themselves and us playing in a better league with more playing time, that typify the sort we have to attract.
Not every player is like Witsel. Yes it is largely about $$$ but good footballers are ambitious too and we should applaud that and not fear it.
We will be back in Europe, have a well-known and respected manager, fanatical and loyal fans, and a new majority shareholder who has brought improvement and vision and is looking for more. We have plenty to offer.
