Trilby was the name of a novel that introduced the world to the sinister puppet master Svengali (who that fat agent of Lukaku and Pogba brings to mind)
The hat's name derives from the stage adaptation of that novel (a hat of this style was worn in the first London production of the play, and promptly came to be called "a
Trilby hat").
Interestingly, the fedora (the hat Indianna Jones wears) came from a play called Fedora...The first production in 1882 starred Sarah Berhardt in the title role of Princess Fédora Romazov. She wore a soft felt hat in that role which was soon a popular fashion.
Finally, I see we just signed a young bloke called Bowler...the Yanks call a bowler a derby...which augurs well for our future games vs Satan's Spawn.
You might say all this is disconnected twaddle....but if it is, I'll eat my hat...
