Doubt it, Porto won it 9 years ago, football's changed since then.

Not really but okay.

I honestly don't think a single europa league finalist in the last ten years has been running on a higher budget during that time than us.

Cardiff have reached more finals than us in the last 10 years, too. It's possible for poor teams to win cups. It's even possible for then to win leagues (stand up montpellier).

It's just really difficult.

More clubs are getting taken over these days though, you need money to compete which we haven't got. The league cup and fa cup are cups we can win but I want us to compete for the CL and the League again. Unfortunately we haven't got the money to do that.

Its great that other clubs have won cups, gives us a bit of hope, but for every Portsmouth or Man United, there are roughly 100 professional clubs, poor and rich that havn't won it that year..

In 10 years, 6 teams have won the FA cup out of a total of nearly 1000 league clubs. Your pointing out the one club that has succeeded against the bigger clubs in that competition, for me simply goes to show how much luck is involved. How many winners other than Portsmouth were smaller than us over the last decade? none.

We are also bang on form in terms of the League Cup because we have never won it. In fact, we've only reached the semi's 4 times so historically, this is a rich vein of form as one was this decade ;).

I also cannot see why winning a trophy in 1933 means we should surely win one this year.

Success for me is progress, because unless we progress, we'll be relying on luck and Portsmouth spent a lot of money and paid a bigger price for their luck than anyone would want to pay.

IMO it would be great to get some money and be one of the clubs that win regularly because they are well financed and hit regular CL spots. It would be even better if that finance came from achieving 4th spot, getting to the group stages a couple of years in a row and progressing, so whilst Wigan hurt and City didn't make up for it at the time, it may yet if the start of something good is still to occur this year.

Well only 10 can win it

would I enjoy winning with arab money as much? no it would feel like cheating I don't want rich benefactors and buy titles like it is now, though I guess the mersey millionaires could be classed that way? I would want a more level playing field throughout the whole leagues, baseball has lower teams getting first picks or something like that. In this age of extraordinary wealth I prefer being everton and trying and beating the better teams and even with a little better finances we could actually challenge and disrupt the top paying teams that to me would be sweeter and a two fingers to the billionaires and might actually cause a redress of the situation as why would you pay hundreds of millions and still not win so a whole change would be needed. The players don't get better the more money you pay them and with so many good players out there it is definitely possible to find the hungry driven cheaper types that want to play for a club over bench warming for higher pay. So better scouting better advertising and getting the everton name more widely commercial should hopefully bring in the required funds to keep the soul of the club and the game and still win and achieve, though I could be dreaming. But always everton I love watching them play good or bad prefer good but its the team and players and spirit I love and those match days are amazing, relegation or champions done the everton way is what its about. When the club itself gave up on potential success in just accepting our European ban without so much as a whimper then failed to capitalise on being one of the 'big 5' who helped set up the premier league in the first place. That evetually transcends to the fans over time and we get to the mindset we are now where anything but relegation battles and an odd cup run will do.

LOL.

Our goverment banned us, not much we could have done about that.

I'm pretty sure it was UEFA who banned English teams and the government just went along with it. Either way I'm sure appeals could've been made to UEFA and we could've put a case forward to allow us entry. Either way that's a totally different debate.

I love it when we win. I hate it when we lose. The joy of winning will be more intense in more important games, just as the disappointment of a loss will be. I will never get bored of us winning games, so I don't see why I would if we were regularly winning trophies.
