This is why I posted this here. I actually posted on a basketball forum after my Jayhawks had a meltdown and blew a huge lead to get eliminated from the title hunt. It's been a long time since I've been that crushed. And I posted the next day that I'm not sure why I even care about sports anymore, because all it brings is disappointment mostly. And then I thought...that's a crap way to look at it. So I guess I'm wondering if lowered expectations make for more chances to enjoy the sport? IDK. It's a question I've been pondering.

Dont think lower expectations mean enjoying the sport more, it is just that people have differing expectations of their own team. Witness GOT! Some want Moyes gone because of A, B & C, some think he is ace, based on X,Y, & Z. Neither right or wrong, but they will still be at the match/stream/pub WANTING the same thing.

After 40+ years as a blue, I have never felt as crushed after the Wigan match. For others, it may have been the SF against the RS, for another, the FAC against WBA in 69.

And the most glorious thing is that it all ridiculously unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Suppose thats why it is called "Sport". Love it though.

Id be ecstatic if we got 4th, its the first step to greater things and its all we can hope for the rest of the season. As unrealistic as it sounds the long term goal is league champions with a few fa cups on the way.

The problem with success, if we ever get any again, is that they will put up a Smirking Goblin's head on the Goodison screens to ruin the celebrations.

Wait it was you who said "I've witnessed nothing but misery as an Evertonian, so for that reason when we are successful it'll be 50 times better than anything a Man United or Chelsea fan could feel. " not big mac wasn't it?

Sorry mate. But still my point stands, cup finals and european trips and 4th, 5th and 6th places are rightly thought of as misery at a club like ours. We expect trophies.

You don't speak for every fan.

I would not find 4th place and qualifying for the Champions League a 'misery'. If you do then why even follow Everton ?

Everton were never this all conquering side, we had one period in the 80s where we won a fair few trophies in a short period of time, the rest of our history has been one trophy every 10 years or so.

I'm azz now?

We ain't as deluded as Libberpool fans who think they are entitled to win the league every year. We are more realistic and would take what we can get, as long as there are signs of improvement each season we can't really complain.
