When he put Rooney into his boot, that did it for me.

And tried to make up pathetic excuses as to why he left.

Fair enough, he's been through cancer, but so have alot of people and the way he acted in pre season 05, was an absolute and utter disgrace.

I agree with that mate. (y)

It's only a job to you but it's his bread and butter!

we should offer the lad a coaching roll!

What, one of these like?

He's made his mistakes but on the whole he's been a good servant for this football club. He always gave his all, he was a first class defender and he was one of the key figures under Moyes. I respect him for that.

He only really came into his own as a defender towards the end of his career and had his fair few problems with the club, so I'm surprised to see people rate him as a legend. For me he's not, but he was an excellent defender over the past few years.

Shame to see his career ended by injury though.

I pretty much agree with this. I do think that - despite a lot of run ins - he still loved the club and was proud to play for Everton.

I thought Stubbs was always excellent, the defence always had a [Poor language removed] midfield infront of it though when he first came. When we started to improve we saw the qualities he possessed, his reading of the game was first class, he was very good aerially and he was a master of the last ditch tackle.

Him and David Weir helped develop Joe Yobo which is also a plus, I think he learnt alot from them and he always seems to mention them. A master of the art of defending in my opinion, quality player.

Yeah your right he was, but dont you think he only seemed to get that way past the 30 age mark? I thought before then he was just an average defender, but as any notion of pace went out his game it forced him to really think out what he would do, and he benefitted from that.

When he first joined we where [Poor language removed], the midfield infront of the defenders really would get ripped apart and it left the defenders exposed. It doesn't matter how indivually good you are if the midfield is being bypassed by opposition teams anyone will struggle.

Once we got a decent midfield he and the defenders around him improved dramtically. I do agree though he got better with age, most defenders do and especially defenders who where never blessed with pace.

I think getting pace around him helped aswell, Yobo and Lescott really complimented him in his last few years. Carsley infront of the back four aswell.

i'm with you sharpy.
legend is a term which gets used a bit too easily, great player but dont know if the legend tag should be applied, i think the 'tic fans can bestow that on him for leading them forward, for us he was a consistent player, rock solid and a bloke that'll be remebered as a great defender but not in the cat. of legend and i think he would probably agree and have his own views on what a legend is.

I agree He wasn't a legend but then neither was Carsley. I remember alot of people calling Cars a legend when he left aswell.

In reality they where solid consistent player who pushed us on in the right direction.

He was my best Everton player and personifies everything about about Everton.
Jagielka has based his defensive duties on Stubbs but no one will give more for Us than Alan Stubbs.
He bleeds blue, good luck in the future

Totally agree. Cal and all that that are calling him all sorts for being a mate to Rooney can all just shut the [Poor language removed] up to be honest you fickle little gits. Fathead was going anyway no matter what Alan said he was just being a mate(and a truthful one at that, its just you didn't like it!).
I don't give a [Poor language removed] what he said (and didn't at the time), it still doesn't change his stance toward Everton. He is what I would hope every player who puts on the blue shirt would be like. He is an example of what a good Evertonian and player should be like on and off the field and in the community.

I hope he comes back as a coach for future defenders. He knows the game inside out in that position and can only be a good influence.

yeah. people who have said he is a legend need a proper basis for comparison.

cheers for the good times stubbsy. good luck in the future!

Good luck for the future stubbsy, always loved your commitment and passion as a player. Hopefully you'll come back and coach at Everton. The original "last ditch tackle" expert!
