it wasnt keanes tactics that cost sunderland, it was the staff on the field.

They only do what he says!! they were still attacking at 5-1 down. not very clever. wide open all game. he sets the tatics an they follow if not, he's a worse manager than first thought.

althou you are right about the staff on the pitch, they are shocking(i like that k.jones thou)

FFS Sharpy lad all I have agreed with is that he could go as Moyes number two or he could take the reserves, I have at no point said he should manage the blues. I know Alan as well, great lad but everyone has to learn what got me is that someone comes on here and says hes got no class get shut which is [Poor language removed]

im with you on that one. the guy has plenty of class. the charity work he dose is unreal and he dont let any one know about it!!

i know you never ment manage the blues, i just dont think he's ready to assist either........but iv been wrong before and would love somone like stubbs to do it!!

Strange reading the the criteria some are using to eliminate Stubbs as a candidate for assistant manager. Using the same logic, Frank Rijkaard should efinitely not have been appointed coach of the Netherlands, yet took the to semis (PK elimination) in his first major tournament in charge.

In fact, again using similar logic, Moyes was less qualified to take over as manager at Preston than Stubbs is for assistant manager with us. Me personally, I'm glad someone took a chance on Moyes.

Now that I've stuck my neck in the noose, may as jump off the stool: I'd put Gary Speed forward as a candidate.

*choke

Come and join me CT, and yes Speedy is still a blue and will one day be a manager, of where I don't know but he has to start somewhere:lol:

keane 'what i want you to do is not mark the strikers, and push up exposing the defences lack of pace, any balls near you you should leave for them because its not like they are professionals'

they were woeful from front to back besides jones. although gordon made a few saves he has to take some share of the seven.

wonder if sunderland will throw more cash around in january, derby and birmingham are worse, but who else is there? wigan and boro that might also be contenders.

Stubbsy is a class act as a human being. I agreed that he might not make it, lots fall by the wayside, but if he is to try where better than with David Moyes at his boyhood club(y) (y)

It's a shame then that there's probably too much baggage for Speed to come back in any capacity at least for many years to come. I agree, he will be a manager and likely a very successful one.

I agree, he has that ruthlessness about him which is something Stubbsy may lack, only time will tell mate.

How's Calvin:lol:

they couldnt MAKE him sign the disclosure agreement, was his price his move?

jfk, roswell, SAF in league with the devil, the [Poor language removed] never having a soul to bargain with in the first place, all these are secondary to the speed story, even before the fortress fund story it has to be speed.

It's interesting to read this thread and the 'who should be #2' thread to see just how people judge a manager.

One criteria seems to be their persona, or their perceived persona as few of us probably know the people concerned in any depth. On that ground the likes of Stubbs, and particularly Keane, appear well equipped because both are dedicated professionals with a winning mentality.

Another criteria is obviously results. Keane is berated for Sunderland's showing this season, but he also got them promoted in his first season in management. Stubbs has no record at all, unless you count the win he achieved with the reserves.

They're the two things we as fans can probably judge upon with any degree of accuracy. What we can't judge upon however is arguably the most important thing a manager can have, competency. We don't know what qualifications a person has, we don't know their views on tactics and ability to plot tactics successfully, we don't know about their man-management because we don't have access to the training ground or dressing room, we don't know how competent they are at coaching and the technical side of the game, we don't know their contacts that may come in useful for scouting players, we don't know their overall management ability in areas such as finance, IT etc.

So many things that we have simply no idea about and it makes casting any useful judgement very difficult I should think.
