Straq's last two performances

I wish we would have him in the club when Yak was here, would be an excellent foil for him and maybe even Moyes would go 4-4-2 from time to time.

We should sign him up. He is getting better and I think we will soon all see that he's not as limited as some people think.

His touches and lay-offs (whether with his feet or head) suggest that he has a fairly decent footballing brain. He is getting fitter and that will make him quicker (in terms of top speed and reaction time) and sharper. He is already showing that defenders don't like him....he harrasses them and moves them around. That makes space and that's when our other attacking players (whether another striker or attacking midfielders) will find a hole to move into and score.

It's been a while since someone in a Blue shirt actually gave quite so much effort (akin to Cahill a couple of years ago) and I think we should embrace him for that. We may have lost Big Dunc bit we now have Big Den and he will terrify defenders for years to come, whether with us or elsewhere. Let's hope it's with us.

Few more games like this, and £1.9 Million at the end of the season may not be a bad purchase, gives us another option

I really like him - I just really hope that this work ethic would continue if we did sign him, rather than him getting complacent once he has done the hard work and signed a contract at a prem side

That's a good point. There are plenty of players that show effort to get a contract and then go off the boil. What Denis is showing in addition though is a fair old bit of passion and heart and that could bode well for the future. Hopefully.

yes if he finish the season well i'd like to see moyes giving him a contract for a few seasons.
i think cahill's time could be coming to an end this summer.

Put himself about last night. He's full of heart.

Let's not go overboard though. This feller is very limited. If we're to move forward as a club we have to leave the likes of Straquelersi behind. As unhopeful as I am about the ability of Jelavic to make the grade down here in our league, he is the type of mobile and qucik thinking player we need to start making a dent in opposition defences again.

If you could combine skill with effort and heart then I would agree with you, but I would rather have Straq's commitment than Saha's ability and skill. Hopefully Jelavic will have realised what is required.

It has taken over 6 months to get close to fitness, he was either a wreck or getting close to prem fit is a near military exercise.

Davek, I don't think anyone's going overboard, only correcting their first impressions of the player. He was technically very solid yesterday when involved if you discount that one hoof of a shot, but YouTube(tm) has shown he has a monster of a shot so maybe that's the next thing he'll work in to shape. His technical abilities seem to be about the same as Cahill's. His style of play seems to fit our style of play. With our playing staff I'm not sure what kind of player you see would most benefit the team up front. Zamora? Nah, mate.

He hadn't played for 6-12 months and for a big lump like him I can see it to be quite a job. Also to settle in a new team and not speak the language would have an effect.
