Stop Owling Around - Sheffield Wednesday's Dilemma

Southampton were on 15 points out of a potential 42 when Eckert took over this season. That's essentially a 27 point deficit they started with/threw away. I know it shouldn't happen to Wednesday, but starting on -15 isn't a doomsday scenario, especially considering how bad it's been for their fans under the previous regime. With the right people in place, promotion isn't necessarily ruled out at that level.

Its bizarre to penalise them for next season being they're under administration, looking for a solution, while dealing with an absentee landlord everyone is struggling to deal with.

Surely they'd rectify the issue then look at punishments afterwards if needed with more perspective. You have a buyer looking at a club in league one to then having to pay over the odds because the EFL have practically dumped them in league two...while theyre in the championship.

Incredibly unfair to the fans, staff and players. Just seems unnecessary at this point.
It's just vindictive. Surely the club is suffering enough as it is.

Allowing the new owner to come in and remove any structural problems that won't allow the club to move on should be permitted under the supervision of the league. Then applying the same rules regarding spending so they are effectively getting a neutral start but from having a depleted quality of squad due to the previous ownership this is surely a fair and balanced way to deal with them that still gives the other clubs an advantage.

1 minute to come up with that. Not just some arbitrary punishment that achieves nothing but harm a club in an already perilous situation.

Isn't the main problem that Chansiri wants more than the valuation and the buyers want to bring it down...but no one can get hold of him? They bid £20mill but got told it wasn't enough to cover unsecured debt

So because those two parties need time to figure it out...the EFL have slapped another points deduction.

Makes zero sense

Zero sense mate. Hope that Wednesday get through it all and come out the other side without any long term damage to them.

EFL rules state that a quarter of the creditors debt needs to be repaid. Chansiri is the main creditor giving the club £60mill, so was looking to get £16mill out of it. The other main debts of around £17mill are stadium, tax, and legal bills. Cos the new buyer offered £20mill, it doesn't fit those rules, they're looking to slap them with 15 points.

All it takes is for Chansiri to wipe his debt but they couldn't get hold of him to negotiate. So its mad to slap a punishment on them IMO.

Just checked and apparently they're now in talks where he gets £2mill instead of £16mill.
