Steven Pienaar

He's not doing that though is he mate?

He's saying Steven Pienaar was a good player, at a time when we didn't have a lot of good players

Just because we weren't a very good TEAM doesn't mean that Pienaar wasn't a good player does it?

You seem to be of the opinion that because we won nothing in that period none of our good players from that period deserved to be recognised

People still, rightly, talk about Bob Latchford and we won square root of nothing when he played for us

Just because a team doesn't win anything doesn't mean the players in it aren't worth anything. You may think otherwise, but you'd be wrong to do so. It's a very callous way to view the world in all honesty. If you want to be that way then more power to you, but it's not for me

Nah, he said he was his fav player.

And that to me was a sad indication of the lack of true quality we have had over that period.

And Bob Latchford was the best of his position, he won the Golden boot.

This is what successful clubs laugh at.

While teams win cups, we (some fans) celebrate zero net spend and top 7.

While others are playing in Finals, we celebrate taking 12k to Nuremberg.

Teams winning trebles, while others celebrate having good floodlights and massive hot dogs ( this is a nod to a Man United chant )

Pienaar in his prime would have held his own in most Everton squads through the years, he was just unlucky to be part of one that didn't win anything

Royle would have bit your hand off if you'd offered him Pienaar during The DOW days for instance, and they won a Cup

If we had gone the way of Leeds, Blackburn, Sheff Wed, Newcastle and a box of others including Citeh, West Ham and Chelsea we'd have been in a lower league, scrapping about looking for a not so rich buyer but no, we survived and that survival in itself is a success. Yes we've not won a thing since 95 but we are still here, Leeds and Blackburn won the Prem but where are they now. Punching above your weight to get a draw is a success, all the odds stacked against us and we are pulling through.

As for Steven Pienaar, with Leighton Baines both were the envy of all other clubs, they went together like a gin and tonic, unforgettable pairing from two great players

I don't think he would at all.

Also he couldn't get into that Spurs team.

Exactly

For a lot of Generation Y Evertonians, the story of the club is one of defiance

People were queing up and looking forward to seeing our demise, but we denied it to them and held on. The next chapter in the story is hopefully for us to get that new stadium built and actually win something again, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't appreciate those who were part of our history prior to this point. They played a part in keeping use from the worst, and we should be thankful to them for that because lesser sides would (And indeed were) have been relegated

Any success we now enjoy is built on their hard work in the face of what seemed like inevitable doom

There would be no Moshiri take over, no possible investment, if we'd gone down in the 90's or 00's. It would have been curtains. The players who prevented that deserve to be recognised

Leeds never won a PL title
