Steven Pienaar

Slightly surprised as he sounded really homesick a few times last season.

But glad he is staying, he is aging a bit now but still is one our better players at unlocking a tight defence and he brings out the best in Baines.

Have a look at his salary. He has enough greenbacks to get his homesickness forgotten.

when pienaar plays baines is better and so is osman, the link up play between them is very good, same when arteta was here pienaar osman and arteta linkined up very well, piennars still got a place in the squad and can be a very good game changer in a tight match, he had a few to many injuries last season to get to his best

Pienaar and Osman off the bench when games are tight is a huge step forward from 'Saha off Distin on'. Although relatively small, the quality of options has hugely improved wouldn't you say?

Add felli to that list too. No coincidence that. Last year, to my recollection, we played Pienaar or Osman in every game. It suited Roberto, give him more fluidity. Pienaar/Osman moved inside Ross could move forward and we looked 433 at times.

People are clambering for a new left winger or for McGeady to start the season there. I've seen nothing that suggests Martinez wants an out and out winger on either side. I don't see why this would change in the coming season.

Yes he needs to be replaced soon, due to his age, but I have ever expectation that he'll be in the first 11 at the start of the season.

Southampton away I think miralles and deloufeuo (sp on both!) both started I think. Didn't go well.

I think Bobby will ease him in and out of the team this season , handy for the Europa league , so will have a role of sorts to play. But not a regular

He looked more like his usual self against tranmere, the injuries had a big effect on him last year, people seem to forget just how good and clever of a player he is.

Could see him being used as a number 10 at times too, his legs have gone a little but hes one of the few in our squad with a bit of craft, deft flicks and passes
