Steven Pienaar

Apparently he was at the game today with some of his mates / family in the Main Stand and enjoyed every minute of it. Main Stand though Stevie ? Get yourself in the Gwladys or the Park End lad.

Not been at his best this year, but when on form he still has the ability to make us tick. Got a feeling next season will be his last though, so if we get a replacement in this summer, then he's a great back option considering the amount of games we'll have if we get into Europe. We really are gonna need 3 players at least to stand a chance. That's if we get Rom back.

Harsh that......

Not really. First off I don't like him, from what I've heard about him he's a bit of a knob, and the drink driving doesn't help his case.

Second, he painfully slows up our attacks and has nowhere near enough end product for a winger, and I don't buy into this 'pass before the assist' nonsense at all. Yet he always seems to get picked when he's fit. We've won 6 in a row without him out, I don't want him back in our starting XI.

We have done well without Pienaar and Jags, and that is really good management from Martinez.

Perhaps, though it might also be the case that Stones and (especially) Naismith have been that good that we just havent missed them.

Also even if he is fit, I would much rather have Deulofeu starting ahead of him.

Pienaar's definitely an impact player now, doesn't offer enough across 90 minutes and tends to be a bit of passenger nowadays. Still has his uses without a doubt, he does offer something different. When he comes back though he'll have to wait his turn, don't want to see him just get put straight back in because other players have earned the right to be further up the pecking order. Mirallas looks to be hitting top form, Deulofeu is a superstar in the making, Naismith is finally winning fans around with his performances and McGeady has shown flashes of quality in his cameos. Stevie will have a job getting back in our XI.

He was in the team and playing well in our first real run of good form.

He is out of team injured whilst we are on this second run of form.

Pick and choose which "fact" to use depending on whether you like him or not i guess..

Whether or not you buy the idea of pass before the assist or the idea that a player in his position can still be useful even if not hitting your preferred statistical target it is a part of football. Secondly he is not a winger, calling him a winger doesn't really indicate you know much about how we play, or maybe just shows why you are so unhappy with him. You are watching a dinky little link player whilst expecting him to be a Peter Beagrie or something.

With Pienaar out Osman has come in to do mostly the same role with some slight changes. Martinez' preferred tactics involve a player who can "hold up" or "slow down" the play whilst being able to read whats around him. If we always have players like Kev or Deulo who will enter the opponents half and go head down to attack we will end up with lots of defensive situations where the opposition have a numerical advantage. There's got to be a balance and there has to be an element of controlling the game. Pienaar and Osman do this. Although they dont do it amazingly its true, however they are all we have when it comes to this part of the game.

Should we happen to make it into europe next season then i think he will be a very useful player to still have. The Europa League could throw us up an extra 10 games to have to play, so being able to bring a player of his quality in is still a good option to have.

I tend to think pienaar has been bad quite a lot of the season and not playing as well as some fans/media etc made out,and that he has been carried by the "team"
