Steven Pienaar

Midfielders who can score and create are very hard to find, especially on our budget, as Blades said.

Holtby?

This is a player and a club that are made for each other. I really can't see why it didn't happen and he ended up at spurs!

If he's available cheap/reasonable fee in the summer I really hope we get him in. Irrespective of if he or his dad likes arsenals style of play!

I think Pienaar's issue right now is confidence. In the past, he had no fear and would try a lot of different things, some coming off, some not.

Now he plays with a bit more trepidation and as many of you have said, that slows down our attack. I think he can still be a valued contributor but he's got to get that swagger back.

He is just in poor form as have been a few of our players but he gets more stick as I think some people dont understand our tactics and the fact that sticking in a "fast" player for him just wont work.

If Pienaar isnt in the team...Osman will be, and I am in totally agreement with that. Its not a question of drop him and stick Kev out there.

When we buy a new Pienaar-type and he is rotated in when needed or subbed in..and is fresher people will love him again.

Agree with some of that in that imo Osman and Pienaar are probably two of our cleverest players at getting through an organised defense. However, think the same problem affects both of them in that they cannot seem to handle 90mins week in week out and especially fast games can leave them frustrated.

I'd prefer one or both to be started in the slower games, especially at home where teams from lower down the table tend to sit back and rely on counterattacks, they could then taken off it it looks if we have built up a decent lead.
But in the games away from home where we habe more space or against top 10 opposition I think they are better suited to coming in against tired defenders - let McGeady, Mirallas, Barkley and Deulofeu run them around a bit first.

Pretty sure most the top teams inc possession based masters barca and Bayern all play with fast goal scoring wingers 90% of the time.

I actually think he's became far more expansive in his second spell than he was during his first. He definitely tries more imaginative passes, problem being that he isn't good enough to pull them off.

If by next season we could turn him into a back up/squad rotation player then I'd be made up because we're heading in the right direction. Sadly, I still think he'll be a regular starter.

Cmonnnn...you havent even thought that through.

Look at who they have in the centre distributing the ball for starters. Then look at the technical ability of most who fill the wide slots.

You take out Pienaar and Osman then theres nobody taking the ball off the mids and spreading play in an intelligent.manner. Even if they are in bad form we.need one of them for now as its fundamental to how we.play.

Its become one of the most annoying things of this season for me that some people cant see that.

(although i realise you are.not necessarily saying that...so its not all really aimed at.you.)

Mmmm not really sure what your trying to say but I just feel 1 goal and 0/1 assist from your wide player is gonna make winning games all the more harder.

My mate (non toffee) sent me this during the arse game:
Pienaar the master of looking busy whilst actually producing Naff all.

Did make me giggle a little!

Personally i would be looking to sell him and start a new. I don't think he adds anyhting to the team and ther elies the problem. Every player in the team has to be able to bring something new to the team and the tactics that allow the team to win that current game. Piennar doesn't assist goals, he doesnt score goals, and only on odd occasions is involved in the setting up of goals. As a left midfielder that is kind of his job and a younger better player would be a lot more value to us going forward.

My theory over Piennar is that the best thing he can do is draw players away for Baines to get into space. As great as that is, it is a little bit predictable after how many years? The worst thing you can do going into the game is do everything the other team have prepared to defend against, you have lost before you step on the pitch. We have been doing quite well still so i am not saying Piennar is a terrible footballer, i am just simply saying he doesn't add anything to the team that his position suggests he should. All of his plus points is what you expect a central mid or fullback to be mentioned about, not one of the attackers.
