Steven Pienaar

He has no pace, he can't shoot and isn't clinical enough even when given a gilt edged chance to score, he's scored once and gotten two assists in 23 league games. For a winger that's just not good enough at all.

Yeah but its not as simple as that. We have to work with the squad we have right now.

We take him out, and maybe put in Mirallas or McGeady or Deulofeu okay? So far from those three the only thing we can be sure of is that Kev will be very inconsistent but will occasionally have a good game, and does score a few. However what we lose by putting Kev in there is the close control, ability to hold up possession and link the midfield to the attack. Kev simply doesn't have the football brain for that. So basically Kev is an inconsistent alternative who is not guaranteed to improve on what Pienaar will do in the final third, but who will definitely lose us a lot of possession and the flow of our game from back to front will be affected.

We can't be as sure of McGeady or Deulo yet, but I would surmise it will be a similar enough story to the above. I think theres glimpses that McGeady is actually becoming a more mature allround player than the head down winger most know him as, so perhaps perhaps he could offer a more effective option going forward whilst being smart enough to hold possession and take the ball from the centre two in tight spaces like Pienaar does.

I still think with Pienaar that, regardless of the stats, he is the best option in that position and nobody else does what he does in the team.

Basically statistically, or on the evidence of actually watching the games, I don't think we have the player in the squad to replace Pienaar adequately in our gameplan.

I think anybody wanting a supporting 3 of Kev, Ross and Deulo just doesn't understand how we play the game or how Bobby wants us to play the game.

Pienaar starts every game for me, even though I think his role is the one that needs looking at urgently in the summer...perhaps even more so than striker.

i recon he is a decent player when he is not in the team we miss him, as for his price tag i doubt very much we could replace him for the same money

I don't think there's a better option at the moment either. Still think we need better.

for the past few years i have never been Pienaar's biggest fan because i see him as a liability.

Under moyes he did fantastic to bring Baines into the game, but clearly that has been found out so now we have to change that train of thought. But when you look at what other left sided wide players do for their club and then look at Pienaar, they dont really compare. He needed to score more and assist more and he hasn't done that in my eyes.

We need to replace him in our team in the bigger picture sure, and i for one will applaud him for the years of service for this club.

It just doesn't mean we can get better.

Totally understand what you're saying but lets be honest mate. He is past it now. He has two assists and one goal for a winger. Obviously he helps me keep possession but ffs, two assists. Need to replace him in the summer or it's going to be same old same old.
I think he would be decent behind the striker.

I'm off Pienaar. Doesn't score anywhere near enough and slows the play down allowing teams to get behind the ball, making them harder to break down. It amazes me that Martinez refuses to play both Mirallas and Deulofeu. I don't think they have been on the pitch together once!

Over 30 games played this year and we are yet to see a front 4 of Lukaku, Mirallas, Deulofeu and Barkley.

With everyone getting back to full fitness, it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

2nd half in the Goodison derby. Was boss I thought when we had them two and Lukaku just sprinting at the defence.

If we have a decent amount to spend, I'd go all out to take Konoplyanka from under Liverpool's noses. 16 mill would do the job, can only dream of a player like him at us. Then who knows, still enough for a decent striker, just a thought.

I think it's time for Pienaar to go, the only goal he scored was his first touch before he could think about it, his shot on target to off target must be massive, never on target, what's mad tho is he plates awesome balls to Bains but never to the forwards, always go left to Bains

I think Pienaar's a great wee player. He works his heart out and he has plenty of skill. The problem is his lack of strength. He's easily pushed around and then he loses the ball. I really wish his shot had counted on Saturday instead of hitting the post.

We need to attack more with pace and that's something, sadly, that Pienaar cannot do while out on the wing. Besides, he seems to want to move inside a lot -- he and Osman actually got in each other's way at least once vs. West Ham.
