Steven Naismith

Annoying thing is he's a £5-6 million asset that isn't suited to our system and sat doing nothing on the bench, but won't be sold due to being in Martinez's Clique.

Let's be honest if we get a playmaker in he's 3rd choice as no10 behind the playmaker and Ross, he's 3rd choice behind Lukaku and now Kone up top, and he's behind all of Mirallas, Deloufeu and Cleverly out wide (can add mcgeady when fit)

It's frustrating that if we sold him that money could go towards clinching Yarmolenko or a player of his calibre.

Does it all without seeking media attention.

This is what I love about Naisy. You'd never have known all about this if the media hadn't by chance stumbled across this story.

It's a very spiteful way to look at it. How do we know that Naismith is seeking media attention? Maybe the people/organisations that he is helping are contacting the media? Or maybe he is just an attention seeking whore? We don't know, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Either way, it's a great thing he's doing. I personally think it's shocking that people in this country live in such poverty while others are earning stupid money for playing football etc. Naismith is doing something to redress the balance so good on him. I'm sure if you were one of the unfortunate people he was helping, you wouldn't grudge him some attention for it.

If he's prepared to be a squad player and Martinez is prepared to use him like that, then I'm happy for him to stay. He's a top lad and has some very good qualities.

But he is not good enough or suitable enough for what we need. He isn't creative enough to play the role asked. Late on in games though, he can be a nuisance to other teams, and one on one with the keeper there are few better players in the squad.

It's okay to have squad players. Not everyone has to be ace or gash, there is something in between. It just depends on whether or not Naismith is okay not playing every game for 90 minutes.

I think what he's saying is, he definitely does not want to be a squad player. Therefore I'd rather punt him to infinity and beyond in this transfer window than have to suffer him actually being a first team player anymore

The headline says that but the actual quotations don't paint that picture to me, completely.

If so then yeah, he needs to leave. But no player is going to be content sitting on the bench -- certainly not ones you'd want to have in the team -- rather he needs to be capable of not kicking up a stink and just trying to fight for a place in the team.
