Met this lad a number of times .What a cracking lad,not the most technically gifted player but gives his all for the club.
He knows he is well down in the pecking order & I'm sure as further better players are added to the squad he knows he will have to leave.
If the lad gets an opportunity to move for 1st team games and keep his International hopes alive I'm ok with that. ...one of footballs decent guys.

Aye fair enough, I'm not happy with him going to the press about it though.

Remember when Lukaku and Mirallas do it, they're vilified despite having 10 times the talent.

It's another example (not you personally btw) of the double standards of many of our posters.

Would rather have a player who wants to be on the pitch and not on the bench, then a player who is happy to basically not be doing anything.
exactly. then if he was happy on the bench people would say"content to steal wages from this club, greedy tit"

I think the headline of the article is a little misleading, 'I'd quit Everton'. He doesn't actually say that at any point in the article. He's just saying that his place in the Scotland team may be in jeopardy if he doesn't get much game time this season, which is a valid concern.

I'm a Scotland fan and there are some huge matches coming up, with the chance of getting to a major championship for the first time since 1998, of course he wants to be a part of it. Naismith will play in the upcoming internationals, he's thinking further down the line though.

I don't see it being a huge problem, he won't be as regular a starter as he was last season but he'll still get the occasional start, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts on Sunday instead of Kone to try and put the shackles on City's attacking full backs!

City have been dangerous down the left in particular with Kolarov and that other kid they signed, can't remember his name!

One of the Senior players.

Very well respected in the dressing room.

The manager likes him.

Great work rate.

Always good for a goal.

While my heart weeps if I see him starting on the wing, he's not going anywhere this window and I'm fine with that.

That's exactly why they're vilified. Because at the end of the day, no one's arsed if Naismith leaves

Come on, Naisy, you don't have to be starting for Everton every week to be first choice for Scotland. You just need two legs and a controlled heroin addiction.

A little Scottish joke there, about both the lack of footballing talent and the stereotypical half-truth of rampant drug abuse.

The headline says Naismith wants to quit Everton, then they quote him as saying:

“I want to play as much as I can for Everton first and foremost because that’s your day-to-day work and that’s what will bring you more success in other areas, like international recognition which means so much to me.”

So he doesn't want to sit on the bench, and he wants to fight for his place in the first team. That's exactly the attitude I want all of our players to have.

At the moment I wouldn't drop anyone to start him, but our season is not going to be a smooth ride. People will get injured, players will fall out of form, and Naismith has proven that he's a very capable deputy, and that he's very useful to bring on to see out a game.

People keep saying he doesn't fit our system, but there's a reason Martinez persists with him. He does lots of important things, he wins loads of headers in midfield (which is important to provide an outlet when teams press), and for a while last season he was almost the most fouled player in the league, second only to Hazard! His passing is, statistically, nowhere near as dreadful as people claim and he passes the ball forward more than any of our other midfielders.

People who base their opinions of players on MOTD may not pick up on those things, but fortunately Martinez recognizes them.

The rampant drug abuse is only a quarter-truth I'd say, the lack of footballing talent is the whole truth though! :)

Strachan started picking Naismith in the first 11 when Kenny Miller retired, and he wasn't a regular starter under Martinez at that time. Also, Strachan picked Alan Hutton when he was frozen out all season at Villa, purely because we didn't have any better options (desperate stuff)

I wouldn't say Naismith needs to be playing week in, week out to still get his international place. If he is only getting 5-10 minute cameos here and there then he might be in trouble. If Scotland qualify for Euro 16 (haha am I actually saying these words?), and Naismith isn't playing much, I would think he'll look for at least a loan move in January.

Otherwise, he'll stay and work his socks off as usual

Naimsith hasn't said he wants to leave though, at all. It's basically just a publicity stunt on behalf of the paper/himself to show his commitment to the national side/ He's a good squad player to have for us and he's done us well. Personally, I could see him moving in the next two windows, but it will all be amicable and we'll get a good fee for a player that's given us a good few years (on a Free transfer as well).

Right now, he's out of form. Kone is in form, Barkley has been ace and Lukaku's brace could be a blip or could be the start of a run. No way Naisy is in the side ATM and he knows it. Grind it in training, find some form and force Bob to find time for you. He gets it. If anything, he's working his angles with Bob.

I think he may well leave in twelve months time ,if, as seems likely he will be playing an ever more peripheral role in the team.
He would have no trouble finding a good club, hard working honest player who gets a fair share of goals.

But, limited as a player.
