The Naismith conundrum in a nut shell. Ian Ladyman in the mail makes naisy man of the match but fails to mention him once in his full page article on the game. Every team needs a naisy and we have him and mc carthy who give the platform for other players to perform. The crazy thing for me is people keep putting the everton side down on paper leaving naisy out to accommodate other players. My view is naisy should start every game at the minute and Ross shouldn't be anywere near the first team until his form improves in training.(put's crash helmet on for saying something negative about ross).

We'll only ever get back to that first Martinez season of exhilarating football when we have the same shape and fluency. That means Barkley right at the centre of the action and a lot of pace ahead of him.

The way we are playing this season is terrible to watch. It's all bits and pieces and an ugly stop-start tempo. Players like Lukaku and Barkley cant find any rhythm whatsoever. IMO, what we're doing right now is wrong and we need to stop and go back to a tried and tested formula. Carry on like this and it'll be a dire season.

just wonder if ross is being over coached. The boy's a one off maybe Martinez should just let the kid roam where he likes and cause havoc. It will need a very tight set up behind him to allow this defensively.

He is a very effective footballer in terms of the team, that's why it's hard to leave him out! His clever movement and work rate allows the more 'gifted' players to find space and do their thing!

There was nothing wrong with Naismith's technique last night anyway, I can't remember him giving the ball away?

He's a good player, simple as!

I have huge reservations about Martinez this season. His judgement is clouded by building up relationships with his squad and making weak diplomatic decisions rather than decisions based on what's good for the team.

It's okay being smart but he doesn't have excellent pace, doesn't have excellent finishing (he misses some proper sitters) he doesn't have excellent passing or ball control/dribbling.

He's a decent player who is a work horse but he's not in the same ability bracket as a Barkley, mirallas or mccarthy imo

.....he doesn't have excellent pace but he only misses 'proper sitters' because he busts a gut to get in there. Better that than sit on the edge of the box and be safe. Just watch the majority of goals we score and have a look who's sniffing around the 6 yard box.

He has he ability to pick a clever pass because he's a clever footballer. I disagree with you but it's just my opinion. We've got a very good footballer at the height of his ability.

Interesting, can you explain further?

I'm thinking of his ludicrous contract extensions for 'great Evertonians' Hibbert and Osman; his failure to bring through a kid like Browning when he clearly has the talent; his over-emphasis on the EL stages - a tournament that boosts his profile more than our PL chances; his failure to settle the Barkley/Naismith conundrum because he isn't willing to make an unpopular decision; his favouring a legend in the game in substitution making by taking off others when Eto'o is clearly not producing anything; his failure last summer to settle the CB situation and insisting we had enough back up when an injury and a falling out with two of them left us exposed.

My marks for Martinez's season so far would have to be no better than 4/10 I'm afraid. He's had a nightmare first third of the season and it'll continue in that vein if he doesn't get a grip and start managing in the same bold way he came in doing.

Think that's some valid points. Nobody's perfect after all and the league table doesn't lie. I don't think he's shown over-emphasis on Europe though.
