A close aid to me at the club, stated that they had just signed steven carr 31 from newcastle on a free, to my utter anger another friend of mine said the same thing independantly. These sources have been extra reliable over the years especially my associate to the club.

If that's the case, well then it at least helps from a squad depth standpoint.

I wouldn't say that it necessarily improves our squad though as we have capable defenders already.

But having the extra help won't hurt I guess.

tx he is crap too old and newcastle got rid of him for a good reason he isnt good enough for the prem period, if he isnt good enough as a bench warmer for the barcodes, then thats an embarrasing signing, we can do better than have that garbage on the bench lol..he should be heading south with carsley this year to derby county.

Well you could see in my post above that I wasn't exactly thrilled about it.

However, adding numbers (which everyone agrees we've been short on the past few seasons) makes sense as long as it fits within the budget Moyes is working on.

Sure, we'd all love to get player X here that's a better proposition than Carr but player X will cost us more in terms of potential transfer fees and wages. In addition, player X will assume that he'll get plenty of playing time and if he doesn't, he might unsettle the squad complaining about it either internally or to the press.

There's a fine line between bringing in some help at a reasonable price without breaking the bank. If this is true, then Moyes feels that he's be good cover at a reasonable price.

Everton have a system of keeping quiet on transfers for as long as possible, as always been the case.

You will prolly hear something when they sign someone else to soften the blow of this player...coz lets face it, its an embarrasing signing.

I'd just like to point out though, that its just like signing graveson today...he has no legs and completely useless even a liability...carr represents a liability if it is true about him being signed on a bosman.

Dont see it as embarrasing in the slightest, its our weakest position by far and if signed he has immediately improved it

From 1993 to now, the lad has made over 300 appearences for Tottenham and Newcastle.

The only problem i'd have is it perhaps means more of Neville in midfield.

no he is [Poor language removed]..really really [Poor language removed]..he is barely good enough for the championship.

Well if it makes you feel better, cover signings like Gravesen and Gardner got very little playing time (Gardner got none) so I don't think you have to worry much about seeing Carr on the pitch week in and week out.

Did your contact say how long the contract was for? I couldn't see it being longer than one year to be honest.

Lads Carr is quality if this is true and its a big if, i would be delighted!

I am not speaking out of my arse, i have seen him live on many occasions, he was the best right back in the Prem before his injury difficuties. He had the afore mentoned Joauquan in his pocket in the world cup and i have seen him do the same to the likes of Malouda and Ribery on the international stage! You should see the corsses thislad can put in.

Still dont think its true though, excellent addition to the squad if it is.

Thats the dilemma isnt it? Do we solve our problem position and sign a decent right back meaning he has to find a place for Neville elsewhere or do we stick Neville there were hopefully he can do less harm
