Clearly he had a budget for u21 players. That much was obvious while Koeman went for short term fixes.

..I expect a DoF is much more empowered than a Chief Scout. I’m not sure any of us truly know how the process works, but I imagine he discussed a team strategy, agreed requirements and then identified players via his scouting network and analysts.

I’ve defended Walsh but I do think questions deserve to be asked of his culpability. Surely he has enough responsibility to support the building of the team and challenge the moves for so many players of a similar type.

..if this is true, it sounds like Koeman and Walsh had a slanging match about who’s to blame and Moshiri has sacked the main man. I imagine he’s not too enamoured with Walsh either.

Bingo.

I think it worked relatively simply. Koeman said I need a striker, left sided defender. Walsh drew up a list based on his scout reports and his data analytics lark for Koeman to "yay or nay" and the board went to work.
