Stephen Lawrence killer admits role but refuses to name accomplices - BBC News https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cewn99k9l7zo
David Norris during his parole hearing has finally admitted his part in the murder of Stephen Lawrence.
He evaded justice for 19yrs so has only served about 12 years for an abhorrent crime that shocked the nation.
I am of the opinion like the family of Stephen that Norris should not be considered for parole until he reveals who carried out the killing with him.
Only Norris and Gary Dobson were finally convicted of his murder although there was a gang of at least 5 present.

Been thinking on this today, and there is a growing movement where killers have to give up where they hid bodies previous (that've remained unfound) before they can be considered for release. Thing is, would criminals get cute and simply name a few people that are now dead and thus unable to clear themselves of an allegation. It becomes a difficult part of a crime to check. Wondering why at least one is up for a parole plea so early and it's because of juvenile sentencing (norris was 16 when he took part in the gang attack) and so minimum term was applied at 12 years.
It is worth remembering that the macpherson inquiry found a certain london establishment institutionally racist, that's well before the casey report found what it did about the very same firm of criminals.

It brought it all back to me also the worst thing about the episode is Stephen was a grade A student coming back from an evening out with his friend bothering no one and was chased and set about and left for dead with multiple stab wounds, no way should anyone serve only 12 years for being involved in that.
I don't believe a word he's said in the statement released today, hopefully it will be some considerable time before he's released.

I reread his injuries earlier on, and am distraught that he dragged himself up to run away like he did mortally injured. I want to believe that his murder stood for something and meant a sea change in attitude.

I want.

@Ming the Merciful 👍 like to previous post made me smile !!!.
I'm of the opinion unless the others involved are named, there is no discussion to be had. Regardless Though, for not coming clean in the beginning, parole should not be in place for at a minimum say 20+ years.
You are asking for the law to be rewritten, if there was to be another charge of perverting the course of justice, providing false witness, evidence destruction, and crossing the road with his shoe lace untied, then I'm all for it.

On a related note,

If the person won’t name names, this has to be classed as an aggravating factor, and any sentence/ parole discussion should take this into account.
Apparently he is a changed person, according to him, apart from the ongoing racial abuse he gives staff and the weapons he has been found in possession of in prison.
He needs never see the light of day again.

Build some prisons on remote Scottish islands.

Terrorists, murderers, violent offenders, rapists.

Chuck them there with 100yr sentences.

Staffing would be an issue but surely in this day and age we could run it mainly with technology.

Cells locked up 23hrs a day, 1hr the door opens like a chicken coop and they can stretch their legs, we aren't monsters.

Then back in your cell you go.

No tv, no phones.

Access to some books permissable.

This turned up in the CE zone, and as much as it pains me to have to say it (again) part of crime and punishment is rehabilitation. There has to be a path for a move away from serious criminality and a reforming of a character so as to then be allowed to be part of law abiding society. If you want prisons to be an ersatz gladiatorial colosseum then your approach and the reasons for such are flawed before you've started.

I know @chrismpw is a big fan of George

Interesting he uses budweiser to make a point or two.

You`d hope that Stephens mum and family, will hold a lot of sway over this behind the scenes and she`s on record as saying she doesn`t believe a word of what he says.

It`s a political hot potato, no way is he getting out anytime soon.

His legal team are testing the political waters (imo ) with regards to a future strategy for getting him out in the future, not the present.

Add to that, the fact his family are and always have been serious criminals and that fact won`t be lost on the authorities either.

I don't think any system is without flaws.

Our sentencing laws are an absolute joke for violent crime.

And if you repeat offend then throw away the key.
