Starting XI for Lille

Play a strong team. 10,000 fans going - and it's not exactly a long trip for the players. An hour flight tops. No jet lag - back home for 10/11 thursday night in all likeliness. Get something from Thursday's game and then we can experiment with rotating players in Europa League.

I'd play a strong team, maybe try and give the returning players a rest in the second half, followed with a similar line up against Burnley. We can rest the odd player after that. If there's one thing we need after yesterdays result, it's momentum. Burnley will be no pushover, they haven't won yet, and we are Everton.

Yep and maybe Oviedo for Baines ?
Or Garbutt possibly if Oveido hasn't recovered from surgery yet. Could see Oviedo on the bench as both an attacking and defensive sub, but I agree it wouldn't be the worst idea to give Baines a rest, and that is the area we have incredible strength in back up in.

Robles, Hibbert, Browning, Oviedo/Garbutt, McGeady, Besic, Barkley, Eto'o in
Howard, Coleman, Alcaraz, Baines, Osman, Barry, Naismith, Lukaku out/on bench

does Lee Carsley ever go or watch the blues ?

There weren’t many Evertonians at the last Europa League game, in Krasnodar, but I expect Thursday night in Lille will be a different proposition altogether.

The estimate is that around 2500 Blues will making the short hop across the channel, but I reckon you can double that. I know what Everton fans are like for supporting their team, and they’ve waited a long time for these European away days.

And those 180-odd fans who made the trip to Russia will be given a free ticket for Lille, which I think is brilliant from the club, and well deserved.

Reportedly they'll be around 16,000 of us going over.

This is no different to a mid-week PL game in terms of preparation. It's what a two hour journey tops in terms of private jet flight from Lille to Liverpool. One hour time difference which is irreverent and a 6pm kick off. Players will be back in Liverpool by 11pm latest on Thursday evening.

No reason to rest players for this one IMO. Get qualified then start messing.

Certainly it cann't be used as an excuse if we cock up at Burnley.
