I don't support Liverpool, so I don't know the specifics. I do, however, remember some hubbub in the local media about the Kopites being forced to show they could afford their share of the stadium in order to get some kind of grant - possibly Objective One money?

I also remember them celebrating getting the money....so I'm guessing they proved they could afford it

But they were granted the land without being asked if they could afford to build a grand stadium on it. All their plans were given the thumbs up....but not their finances.

Affordable is transient.

Chelsea couldn't afford Shaun Wright Phillips until the Russian arrived....

But aint that the whole point? We dont have a backer so what do we do, wait for one?

Of course LFC's owners care what their paying customers think - can you honestly ever see Liverpool moving to Kirkby?

But the paying customer voted for Kirkby didnt they? And why would they want to move to Kirkby when Liverpool County Council give them everything they want when they ask for it?

Stanley Park is the right site for both clubs (if we could both build on it without sharing) and is the perfect site for either club (us first) - it's also the least perfect site as in it's public land and shouldn't be given away to any private company. Us or them.

But it has to a club who will be crippled by its debt.

Liverpool could easily turn their stadium round and build where they stand - it'd probably be cheaper than Stanley Park - but they want the prestige of Stanley Park.

They cant expand Anfield I heard.

Everton? We're just happy to get out from under their feet and scurry off to the suburbs to lick our wounds - so long as it's cheap.

LCC wanted us to move out of the city before, offering us sites in Knowsley. No ones happy to get out from under their feet. But when parties that could help and should help dont, you seek your own way out for help. And £130million isnt cheap.

Robert Elstone admitted at the Inquiry that the club have so far raised zero pounds and zero pennies towards the move to Kirkby. Yet they expect to be playing there in 30 months?

Not a cat in hell's chance!

Who says we dont, or cant get the money? People outside the club looking in.

I'M OFF TO BED!!! SWEET DREAMS:D

Like I said, I'm not a Liverpool fan. The last I heard though, you don't need to prove you can actually afford something to be granted planning permission - you don't even need to own the land....as Terry Leahy found out when Dot Reid applied to build a park on his house

Public Inquiries are slightly different to the usual planning process though, and require more detail. LFC's plans never went to an Inquiry, Everton's did.

Looking for one would be a good start - Elstone has said Everton aren't looking.

But the paying customer voted for Kirkby didnt they? And why would they want to move to Kirkby when Liverpool County Council give them everything they want when they ask for it?

The paying customer voted for Kirkby Golf Course too, and the King's Dock. Only 59% of those eligible to vote voted in favour though, compared to 90% and 95% respectively for the previous stadia

You heard wrong then. They own the houses from the back of their Main Stand right the way down to Sleepers Hill - that's how they are able to use them as a land swap with the council for Stanley Park. Most people who live in Anfield (as I used to) would prefer them to do this than build on a park.

LCC wanted us to move out of the city before, offering us sites in Knowsley.

Liverpool City Council offered Everton sites that belonged to another council? How did that work?

No ones happy to get out from under their feet. But when parties that could help and should help dont, you seek your own way out for help. And £130million isnt cheap.

£130m? That's the cost of the Kirkby stadium isn't it? Who's paying for that? (Tesco have already denied their £52m donation by the way)

Who says we dont, or cant get the money? People outside the club looking in.

When we can't afford to improve the playing squad, we can't afford to build a new stadium.

The Bellefield plans were designed to bring in the first £10m or so for Kirkby, which would then be borrowed against and that borrowing would provide the main money for Everton's contribution.

The Bellefield plans were ****ed off the other week.

Everton can't evem afford Kirkby.

What a good job we were being lied to when we were told Goodison would fail it's safety certificates - because we'll be playing our football at Goodison for the foreseeable future. I'd just prefer it if it was a redeveloped Goodison Park, you and your mates seem to want it to rot while we play in it.

Robert Elstone on radio

Apparently Robert Elstone is on Radio Merseyside tomorrow night at 7 with Alan Jackson to talk about kirkby. Taking listener questions too....
