Stadium Stuff!

< Snip drivel from a football obsessive who trawls the web looking for people to hound. >

This nut was banned from a wiki site for having an obsession with a stadium on Clarence Dock. He kept changing it, putting in a big bit on a Clarence Dock stadium - which no one has planned or wants. The US owners banned him. It was hilarious. He has mental issues. He goes on....

During this "debate" (rant) John insisted that the Echo Arena would be a failure and would ruin the area "killing the place dead". "Concrete bowls that are only used a few days each month" would wreck Liverpool's recovery.

The actual result of course was an award winning arena, an extra 2 million per annum to the local ecconomy and passing trade and increased income for the Albert Dock (up 30%) since the arena was built.

The Arena is tatty and has killed the place dead. Chara-bancs enter filed in 1700s docks. It should have been built on the landside quays of Queens Dock.

Perhaps even more shamefully, John claimed that if Everton had built the Kings Dock 55,000 seat stadium there would be another Hilsborough. This is obviously a quite shocking scare tactic to use on Liverpool based forums.

The EFC Kings Dock stadium design had little space around it, hemmed in by water -potential killer in a panic.

When talk in the stadium development threads on skyscrapercity and then later KEIOC's forums turned to the possibility of a stadium being built on Clarence Dock,

Clarence Dock is a World Heritage Site. Peel have no plans for a stadium on in the Liverpool Waters plans.

1. Merseytram which is a fairly simple street running (above ground) system is costed at 400 million pounds. This is a scheme that is "hop-on/hop-off" service and therefore does not require staffing and/or stations. Imagine then how much a fully integrated outer loop with multiple stations, staffing, car parking AND a doubling in size of the underground would cost.

How could a few hundred on a tram stuck in traffic jams shift a 75,000 stadium? Answer: it can't.

2. Bringing back dissused tunnels and rail lines is not simply a case of "reinstating rapid rail" that is already there and is not, as John claims "easy to do". John has been told this, god knows how many times, by transport experts who have worked in the field of PT provision for decades, across the world.

The disused tunnels and trackbeds of Liverpool are mothballed for reuse. They are twin track tunnels having been run that way for 180 years.

In terms of costing: In the 1990's Conway Park in Birkenhead cost £35 million.

That is buttons in public infrastructure terms. Many homes are worth more than that. Crossrail costed £18 BILLION

4. Money: Neither Liverpool City Council, The government of the United Kingdom or Bill Kenwright have any.

The financial experts. They all know about money don't they! The Council are getting together EFC & LFC as an enablers to open the full Outer Loop line - to gain pubic funds when the CC recedes, which it is receding right now. They know what they doing and how to get the money. Arsenal never had £300 million in their back pocket - they borrowed showing that the attendances would be high using rapid-transit rail. They paid it off in 4 to 5 years.

I am easy to get at. I can't comment on nutballs, that is a specialism in itself.

He's saying you're the nutter, and you're saying it's him.

There'll be plenty of people on here to discuss stadium stuff with. Just try and remember nothing discussed will change much quick so don't get too wound up.

The more it seems you're trying to convince people, the more they'll disagree or have a laugh. It's the way of the Internet I'm affraid.

Good luck mate :)

Honestly, the guy is a nutball, a Special Needs case. He would rip down St.George's Hall and put up an EFC stadium if he had his way. He said so. A true inward looking obsessive. He has no idea of history or heritage and would ride over the lot. Fun reading him though. A full conference case. He is in need of, or gets, Special Needs.

I don't get wound up - ever. Others do, I don't know why. I am only interested in sensible stuff which benefits the city as well. I know all about the Internet I was instrumental in it in the days when when only computer nerds knew of it, which isn't that long ago. It was brilliant at first as only bright intelligent people used it. Then computers were sold for a few bob dow at Dixons and all changed.

The last two sentences look suspiciously like class prejudice to me.
