I don't think he would have signed mate.

Why change City's bench for ours?

He is leaving for regular football, he would have been second fiddle to Lukaku here.

Like with most of our business we basically seemed caught in two minds what to do, and seemed to switch targets far too late - given how much time we seem to do anything, lesson learned we have to hope and that the lesson is we need to make a fair old number of changes to who doe swhat at the club

Adding to keep the thread positive i will let you know my positive & negative spin on things

Positive
Holgate & Davies will get more of an opportunity with out signings such as sissoko & Kone (well atleast till january anyway)

Even Dowell who we havent got into the first team squad yet this season may be used if say 2 of our wingers get injured/suspended

The lack of backup at CF means we may get to see Geri abit more used there, i find that pretty interesting, and with abit more composure could be very good, particulary away from home

I always believe working with a smaller squad has its advantages, i know our squad isnt tiny, but it would of been possibly much bigger if we had got 3 or 4 more players in. Gives the coaches a better chance of drilling the players better, working on there fitness, and building a tight nit group

Williams, Gueye & Stek all look like excellent value for money, even Bolasie could look good value at some of the prices being touted about europe this summer.

Negatives - Not going to dwell on to much and not go into board room stuff, as for me its what happens on the pitch that is most important

Stekelenberg- started really well and is now our number one until January atleast, i am just a little worried 1 clanger might dent his confidence, or he could morph into Paul Gerrard over night, would of loved a big name goalie or a high potential goalie to have come in

Garry Barry - We are not going to be able to play him every single week, while he does all sorts of ace stuff how is he going to cope against a high energy midfield after playing 6 games in 2 1/2 weeks? When he didnt play last year we missed him rediculously, a team challenging for top 6 cannot rely on a 36 year old barry to play week in week out to the standard he does, and miss him so massivly when he dosent play.

My thoughts are that the squad and managerial team are looking stronger than we did this time last year which HAS to be a positive!

I am concerned about cover for Rom if he should get injured, but we need to trust in the squad that we have. If Koeman didn't think Kone & Valencia were strong enough to be back up options, then surely they wouldn't be here?

We need to keep going with the positive start to the season and try to be in 4-7 come the January transfer window. This should start to make us a more attractive option for potential recruits with the possibility of European football.

Couple of Howlers from Stek (and that's very possible) and there will be a huge Joe Hart shaped shadow over the entire season.

Still bemused by that.

What annoys me is not how much or little we spent it's that we messed about and didn't get who we wanted in to give ourselves the best chance of doing as well as we can this year. Now we all know we are players short. That's what upsets me the failing and lack of ambition. If we tried hard at board level i could accept it, but it's just constant let down

Still, you'd think there's enough quality there to be top 8 at Christmas. Then look to push for a European place with some quality additions.

Yea, the window's finished in a disappointing way, but this is a decent squad and should be top 8 or thereabouts.

Getting quality in come January won't be easy though.

GK Maarten Stekelenburg, Joel Robles

RB Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate
LB Leighton Baines, Bryan Oviedo
CB Phil Jagielka, Ramiro Funes Mori
CB Ashley Williams, Mason Holgate

DM Idrissa Gana Gueye, James McCarthy
CM Gareth Barry, Darron Gibson, Tom Davies
AM Ross Barkley, Gerard Deulofeu, Tom Cleverley

RW Gerard Deulofeu, Aaron Lennon
LW Kevin Mirallas, Yannick Bolasie

CF Romelu Lukaku, Arouna Kone, Enner Valencia

Looking at that it seems ridiculous we didn't get Bony on loan.

Another CB would also have been useful, but Holgate looks decent.

This squad is a bit top heavy, two Mason Holgates and two Deulofeus. Otherwise, comfortably top 8 if it all gels, hopefully higher.

I think we didn't have enough to buy everyone so RK saw a new keeper as the lowest priority.

If he'd have known he would miss out on the winger and top striker he'd probably have gone for Hart.

Stek has had three decent games but to think that will continue is delusion. We just like to do things on the cheap and cut corners
