SQUAD NOT GOOD ENOUGH - FULL STOP! MANAGER HAS MAJOR TASK?

Wouldn't be anywhere near as drastic as you but I can see where you're coming from. We've got too many players who we think are boss but their performances over the last 2 years don't back it up. But it's a squad game and I'm going to give that trio the benefit of the doubt.

Wouldn't be bothered to see any/all of the following leave:

Joel
Oviedo
Funes Mori
Gibson
Cleverley
McCarthy
Lennon
Kone
Niasse
Valencia

If we want top 4, we can't have that lot as our backup, we need the likes of Mirallas as the backup.

I don't know mate, I reckon a lot of those are great backup, and probably the best we can expect. McCarthy, Funes Mori and Lennon, like.

Right now I think a feel good factor among the fan base will make a tangible difference on the pitch.

Seriously forget about top 4. We need to aim to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Spurs first although Chelsea may swap places with one of them first.

We need to give the manager patience but not because it will make a difference. Koeman isn't going to get us into the top 6. That requires a large investment from Moshiri and movement on the stadium.
Tbf if we are aiming to challenge liverpool/spurs then we are aiming for top 4

i guess however it's a long season and I think Arsenal, City and Utd have the better squads and the experience of doing it over s season.

Chelsea are the team that look most vulnerable.

KOEMAN SAID IT WOULD TAKE HIM 2 YEARS TO GET THE SQUAD HE WANTED, LETS ALL STAY CALM. IF MARTINEZ WERE HERE TODAY THEN BOURNEMOUTH WOULD HAVE GONE 5 POINTS CLEAR OF US TODAY.
He also said most managers don't stay long these days and he won't look beyond the three years.

Regardless, we have a squad that as it stands, with this manager, can easily compete for top eight.

A few decent signings in Jan should ensure we are competing for top six - which is our target.

Baffled by people who are unhappy with this start.

Averaging 2 points per-game, currently 4th (though likely to be 6th by cob today, granted).

A poor display vs Bournemouth, yes, but we played vs an in-form Palace and that point was a fair result.

The squad of players Koeman inherited from Martinez was in severe need of an overhaul. We also had a style of play that wasn't for for the Premier League. When you now add in a loss of form for some players then I think you see the scale of the problem Koeman faced.
The two year period to get in the right players seems reasonable enough to me. Apart from getting new players in he has to find buyers for some very ordinary players.
The first window didn't go well, we did have some success, keeping Lukaku's, Gana, Williams and Bolasie have improved us.
I think the change of playing style is taking a bit longer to sort out, Koeman is experimenting a bit and that is having an effect on performances, might be a reason for loss of form of certain players.
We need to get to Christmas and the next window, I struggle to see who will want the likes of Niasse but we need to get them of the wages Bill and bring in a few who will contribute to the team.
I never thought we would be challenging for top 4 this year, I thought a cup run and 8th would represent improvement.
Still think if we can finish in that top 8 and semi-final of FA Cup Koeman will have moved us on. If he gets rid of a few who are clogging up the wage structure that will be a bonus.

That's harsh on Lennon and Funes Mori. Lennon has done ok when he's played and works hard for the team. Mori has only been here a year and has added an aerial threat from set pieces that we lacked sorely- some time under Koeman and he's got the potential to be a solid player.

The simplem question is - do you think they are good enough for Everton? - yes or no, no inbetween maybe or squad player.

Hi mate great post, and agree in most points

One question is finishing 8th and FA Cup semi, any better than finishing 11 th and 2 semi finals.
This isn't a defence of RM, simply pointing out the fine margins on what is deemed as a decent season.

If honest i agree with your expectation, but believe it will not be good enough for some

I think the question is why do people feel that every squad player should be a world class player
If we got shut of them who would we get to be support for the 1st team
Both players are decent and more than adequate to support the first team

If we get shut who would we get...

Goes back to last season and before why did RM not give our young players a better chance than wasting money on that deadwood we have mentioned.
