Well, i think we need:

GK / CB / CM / LW / CF

None of the kids coming through are GK / LW or CF players leaving CB and CM.

At CB we have Jags who is 34, Stones and Mori. If we are looking long term then remove Jags. Stones should be a likely starter and i think we need a top CB next to him with immense leadership and organizational qualities. I also have a feeling Mori will be moved on as he wont want to be 3rd or 4th choice if this player is brought in -- this could leave 2 positions at CB available.

At DM we have Barry who is 35 as well as McCarthy and Besic. In CM we have Cleverley....i would sign a top CM player so looking long term we would have Cleverley as a utility player and McCarthy/Besic competing for the DM position. Whilst that is 4 players for 2 positions theres usually injuries and suspensions here so we could do with 2 more players.

I think this would be healthy competition and if a player such as Davies is good enough he would put in performances to get games....

Without knowing who will take charge mate it's hard to fully judge the squad atm.

don't know what formation we will play, what preferences the new manager will have etc.

Right now in the centre for example we have Barry, Cleverely, Besic, McCarthy, Barkley and the incoming Tarashaj (who could be great or gash) say a new manager comes in buys two and ships off one, then we end up with 7 players their - two of which he bought who will obviously be heavily involved int he first team, say we end up with the likes of McCarthy and Barry/Besic going to the bench most games and starting with 2 nrew lads and Barkley in the middle, then that is a hell of a lot of experienced players for a young lad like Davies to get past into the team, never mind to make the match day squad even

Same at the back, a new man will deffo want to go into the season with 4 experienced cb's - remember Wenger getting slaughtered for not doing so and going with just 3 the other season, so your looking at two injuries to even get a look in on the bench for a young lad, same goes for all over the park, theres a reason not many young academy players are given a chance at any of the top clubs (which i regard us as still)

lots are saying they want de boer in because he trusts the young players - but honestly mate its easy to trust young players when your playing against the likes of Zwolle, Heracles, Excelsior and Cambuur and the difference in 1st and 3rd in a 18 team league is 21 points

Unsworth could probably take a team of Under 21's to that league and stay up - that's the quality - and thats not a joke either as Vitesse are basically a Chelsea loan team and finished 9th in the league

You say we have 2 waves of youth and in the first wave only 1 player came through our academy.

Even in the lower age groups its littered with bought players, Holgate, Galloway, Hennen to name a few.

Dunno why we cant just marvel at how good Tom Davies was and leave it at that.

It's the overhyping that common place now mate, all can be guilty of it at times, I'm happy to say we have a great academy with some lads who 'may' have a genuine shot at mnaking it all the way, IF they do manage it then is the time to do cartwheels

be interested to hear some names mate, who do you rate or like to see as the ins?

Probably best for the transfer thread but:

CB -- Manolas who was linkes to us would be perfect. Has majorly impressive leadership and organizational qualities.

CM -- Bazoer i would love if FDB brought him with him as despite being just 19 looks like a future world class player and 1st choice for holland. Think he wouls thrive in the prem alongside our young core.

CF -- Janssen from AZ another player linkes and again i hope if we got FDB he would bring him over. Looks like a young Van Nistelrooy.

GK -- Under martinez i would have liked sergio rico but cant see it now. Would like Bernd Leno though cillissen could be good for us but not sure about him on crosses.

LW -- Not sure...think it depends on the manager and his style.of play whether its a playmaker or winger.

Some players there who could fit in nicely.

Well its stll 2 waves of youth. The core we have had for 12months+ and the next batch. Im not surebit matters if they come all the way through the academy or are brought into the club like foulds/galloway...however its looking to me that we have around 10 of both types who have a chance

All depends on the new manager. Lets say he signed 2 CMs and 2 CBs perhaps Mori and Besic put invtransfer requests...who knows but i hope he sees thd large numbers coming through and gives them a chance if they are deemed good enough for the squad.

I think where we lack now is the spine of the team. We need a new spine of consistent quality performers to enable these young players to come into a settled team and develop gradually.

The money should be spent on top quality with the kids offering depth.
Cannot argue that, the first thing we were taught have a good spine the rest will follow.
Just as an aside, I would hope we keep Barry on as a coach to these young midfielders, a fine example of a footballer for them to model themselves on.

Actually you reminded me of Janssen, I've actually seen him a few times and agree he looks top top class, have seen Manolas looks steady, not so much the rest.

Janssen will be the next big forward out of holland and as he plays for AZ wouldnt cost a bomb.

Bazoer is the all action player which we are seeing in Davies. Just imagine having 2 Davies types in the centre both able to play 6 or 8.

Manolas would be the defensive lynchpin.

leaving a keeper and left winger...all quite realistic and exciting players.

was interesting to read jagielka saying perhaps 10 players could be off this summer so looks like Unsworth has had some say in this and we will begin a clear out even before getting in a new manager

Im a big Jimmy MC fan if im honest mate, another player who will thrive under a new manager, still think he has bags more potential and the best is ahead of him, in fact he can be one of the best.

I agree, good player but we are still lacking in CM with only cleverley being the recognized CM. The rest are all DMs.

Im not into classifying players as DM/CM/AMs mate there midfielders for my money, its the role in the team at anyone time, for example Barry was a pretty nifty attacking midfielder at Villa.
