Spurs

If the Y word being sung by Spurs fans gets banned I will jack it all in.

What can they do if the fans continue with the "Y Army" chant? Your fans reclaimed the word and turned in from being an insult, (never got that anyrate me), into a rallying cry, as far as I know.

I dont have the understanding of London football rivalries that you do, but I always assumed that most other London fans of your main rival hate Spurs cos they are Spurs. Not cos they have ancient roots in the Jewish community. I may well be wrong mind.

Dont get it.

West Ham and Chelsea use the argument that their fans are only antisemitic filth because Spurs fans use the Y word. And the authorities fell for it.

Basically, the 'women wouldn't get raped if they didn't wear short skirts' argument.

I think Levy wants it gone to help him sell the club.

For me it similar to the redskins in Nfl, it doesn't make you a racist to have used the term in relation to your team or even to have affection for it. It is time however to grow up a bit and move on from it in the realisation that you are sanitising racist language, intentionally or otherwise

Yid is the Hebrew word for mate/friend. How is that racist if we call each other it?

In Yiddish, the word "Yid" Yiddish: ייד is neutral or even complimentary, and in Ashkenazi Yiddish-speaking circles it is frequently used to mean simply "fellow," "chap," "buddy," "mate," etc., with no expressed emphasis on Jewishness

Why are you asking me? You are the expert apparently.

I cant imagine any scenario where I asked a mate who supported Spurs, (have a few), "Is that cos you are Jewish?"

But, for the purpose of discussion, if a Chelsea fan, (you referenced them), called you "Yid scum" seeing you in a Spurs shirt, other than displaying their ignorance, would that be in the same league as a black Spurs fan being called "N scum?"

Life is getting way too complicated.
