Any new manager needs to be given the freedom to wield the axe on the squad if he deems it necessary, and also given backing to have them Charlemont challenging for the title. Under those conditions, and without needing 100m+, any decent manager should easily have them up there with the top clubs.

Nuno couldn’t get it done, Mourinho lost the squad entirely. If it’s Conte (and that’s not a given as they couldn’t agree in the summer), he’ll have a job trying to get things moving until January.
