They'd literally just won the Fa cup
Yeah, againt Crystal Palace.

That they won in extra time.

Wigan winning the FA Cup in 2013 didn't make them a good team either.

Man Utd had finished 5th in the league that season and that's about where they belong. About fifth and sixth with that bang average at best team.

The history speaks for itself.

Man Utd where garbage prior to Mourinho joing the club, but then won three trophies in two seasons and finished second.

Its rewriting of history to pretend that Mourinho didn't make a massive positive contribution to Man Utd.
Is it not rewriting history to pretend his contribution at United was massively positive from a broad overview? He spent loads on players in all positions, the team regressed over time and by the winter of 2018 the players weren't playing for him with, at least, three other teams doing a lot better. It wasn't a disaster from beginning to end - a League Cup and Europa league are good to win - but there was a toxicity within the squad and his press conferences were becoming increasingly bizarre and filled with weak excuses.

I would be surprised if United fans regard his time as a massive positive.

Personally I think that winning three trophies, getting them back in the champions league and delivering their highest league finish in five years all in the space of two seasons should be regarded as massively positive but that's just me......

It's positive but it didn't sustain. Progression spiked and then dipped. His poor transfer record meant that he didn't build a team that improved over time. He was sacked because it wasn't going well. United, as a club, have built a legacy on sustained strength and dominance rather than sporadic cup success which can be achieved through nice draws and occasional decent performances.

The only way you could say that a United manager had a massively positive contribution, based on the club's supposed standing, is if they have genuine title challenges over a series of seasons (Jose had none) or they rekindle top European status (Jose didn't). Based on that fairly reasonable criteria, I would suggest that his contribution was positive for a while and then dropped off a cliff. No legacy of anything positive.

He wasn't given a chance to sustain was it. Because he was sacked far to quickly after a few bad mouths. How is that working out for Man Utd now, did they get better once he left? Or did the show how bog standerd they where and stay 6th for the rest of the campiagn, suffering humiliations such as losing 4-0 to us (and we all know how bog standerd our team is) proving that finishing 2nd the previous season was an achievement in itself.

Never the less his two full seasons at the club can't be regarded as anything other then success. His legacy is three trophies in two seasons and a the highest league postion in five years. That to me is massively positive.

They can be, which is why we're debating it. I accept your position though, I just don't see it as positively.

Sounds like Mourinho is a new man. If that is true they are going to be hard to stop. If we were in a position to get him and he would have considered us, 8 million a year isn't much in the grand scheme of things - I'd be gutted if it comes out in an autobiography that he expected Silva to go and join us but then Spurs jumped in...Everton that.

Mourinho will do very well. He does great work everywhere, even if it's only for a relatively short period.

Their squad is a bit unbalanced, but they still have some excellent players there, and if Kane stays fit that basically guarantees Champions League qualification.

Letting KDB go was inspired as well.

Some of the business he did at United is jaw-droppingly bad.

They're still paying £300k of Sanchez' £400k salary while he's on loan at Inter. Still on the books. Incredible.
I rate Mourinho very highly, but this is definitely the worst thing he's ever done. It's incomprehensible that he couldn't recognise a talent of that level.

The money that he spent on Lukaku is my personal favourite, though.

He did seem a bit different in the interviews and club video. Plus he's trying to get the DOF from Lille who has discovered a lot of decent players recently. The jury is still out on that Nicolas Pepe.

It seems strange that a man renowned for being a chequebook manager would go there fully aware that he will have little money to spend. He had a subtle dig at Man Utd and possibly Chelsea saying the structure was not in place to develop young players at previous clubs.

Shame they're playing West Ham, another team I hate otherwise I'd have wanted Spurs to get beat. Hoping they draw instead

You can wake up now mate!

That isn’t going to be in his autobiography.

I'd love to see us win 3 trophies in the next 20 seasons
