Spurs is a "statement" game

My team would be:

Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
McGeady Barry McCarthy Pienaar
Barkley
Mirallas

Then I'd bring Gerard on for McGeady on around 60 mins, Troare on for Piennar (move Mirallas out wide) for the last fifteen. Then possibly bring Naismith on if need be.

I prefer Mirallas out wide myself but with no strikers we don't really have a choice unless we play Kev on the wings and Naismith up top..

you.....er....not bothering with a goalkeeper, bluegirl......b)

If Naismith gets a decent run in his preferred position I worry for Lukaku. Fancy Naisy to get another on Sunday. Stevey P to do damage as well.

Naismith > Rooney IMO

Interesting thread this. I was trying to think of the crucial games we have won away since we have had a decent team and I can barely think of any. I had a look after the New Year to see how we did since 2004-05...

2006/07 (6th):
Played: 9, Won: 2, Drew: 5, Lost: 2. Points gained: 11/27

2007/08 (5th):
Played: 9, Won: 4, Drew: 2, Lost: 3. Points gained: 14/27

2008/09 (5th):
Played: 9, Won: 2, Drew: 5, Lost: 2. Points gained: 11/27

2009/10 (8th):
Played: 10, Won: 3, Drew: 5, Lost: 2. Points gained: 14/30

2010/11 (7th):
Played: 9, Won: 2, Drew: 2, Lost: 5. Points gained: 8/27

2011/12 (7th):
Played: 11, Won: 2, Drew: 7, Lost: 2. Points gained: 13/33

2012/13 (6th):
Played: 9, Won: 1, Drew: 5, Lost: 3. Points gained: 8/27

So you can see that from that, although we were mostly tough to beat away, there was a lot of frustrating draws and when it came down to it, away from home, we didn't get the wins we needed to push us on from 6th/7th position too often. For me, that has been the reason we have never been able to make the top 4 in that time. Our most impressive season after the New Year, away was in 2007/08 when we came 5th (which was our 65 point season and our highest ever points tally in the Premier League era).

At it turns out, this season is looking like following a similar trend as it stands, as we have failed to win any of our 3 games since the New Year in the league away from home:

2013/14 (Currently 5th)
Played: 3, Won: 0, Drew: 2, Lost: 1. Points gained: 2/9

Spurs on Sunday is a massive game for us, as is Chelsea in a few weeks. I think if we're to challenge seriously for the top 4 we need to be taking 3-4 points minimum from those 2, just like we managed against Man United and Arsenal back in December.

So excited for this game. All of the players available fully fit and in some cases on the comeback trail and desperate to make a statement on the field when they get the chance. Those who played recently will have had a full week to get themselves right, while those returning from injury will have been carefully nursed back to fitness and will be desperate to get on the field as soon as possible. Traore should be on the bench and will be a handful whenever he is unleashed. Spurs obviously benefit from the same as us regarding fitness, etc, but hopefully we've got enough to at least take a point off them, which I am sure we can. Come on lids.

I hate these "statemate" games, we just end up messing it up. Spurs are a good team no matter what their season has been like and it will be tough going to White Heart Lane on Sunday. Hopefully with some players coming back to fitness we will see a decent starting 11, and put on a good show for the fan's travelling down there.

Why do you build me up? Buttercup baby just to let me down, and mess me around and then worst of all, you never win baby when I think you will, but I love yo u still, I need you, more than anything darling, you know that I have from the start, so build me up, buttercup don't break my heart.

I've always rated vellios but if he's not gonna play might aswell sell him then think why did we do that lol. Aslong as the back four are on game I see us winning this like aslong as nais ain't our impact sub

I agree.
Dunno what has happened to him, he seemed a decent prospect at one point.

If he can't even get any game time against Stevenage then best he is moved on.
