They still need to launch at the appropriate time in the orbital periods otherwise they just go to empty space where the planet could have been.

I could link some sites that explain it all, but I am afraid that @BigBlueNose will get a headache reading something about space in the 'space and stuff' thread.
Yes, but waiting for just one target planet to be in the right zone is preferable to waiting for 2 or 3, like they did with voyager.
 


The thing overshot its heliocentric Mars orbit and will now enter the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Now we'll see how a Tesla handles in traffic.

So the odds on a collision deflecting an asteroid to hit earth .....
