I'm getting great views of J and V here chums, and this even with quite a bit of light pollution, looking good through some basic binoc's

Meanwhile, in the UK we aim to turn the clocks back to the 19th century by overturning the fox hunting ban.

Thats a great picture that.

This isn't the closest approach though is it ?
No tonight it should be at its closest, but theres a chance debris around pluto could destroy the probe so we won't know if theres more high def images to come until tomorrow night i think.

Thought Pluto was just a rock of ice floating around our sun and not a planet

It's been reclassified as a dwarf planet.

It's funny, I have friends who try and convince me (for some reason) that great apes and dolphins aren't too far behind us in terms of intelligence. From now on I'll just show them this photograph. From a camera of human design. On a human built probe. Billions of miles from Earth. Almost 10 years into a remote controlled/pre calculated journey. Sod yer Dolphins.

And in return they could just hold up a mirror :hayee:

This really made me chuckle.

As you mention, this really is a fantastic achievement for humanity along with the Large Hadron Collider finding a new quark this afternoon.

Apes and dolphins are certainly intelligent animals and 'close' to ourselves in intelligence, only if you are comparing it with many other animals.

Large Hadron Collider finding a new quark this afternoon.

It is Spaceish, so I wont warn myself.

But that was amazing, considering they were looking for something that they didnt know from sure actually existed in the first place! Just data and some behaviour of atoms or something suggested there was something missing, but they didnt quite know what.

Bonkers.
