Also they had the likes of in-form Jorginho, Verratti, Barella and Locatelli in midfield. People are re-writing history now because they subsequently failed to qualify for the World Cup.

It’s not rewriting history, it’s just history. They failed to qualify for the World Cup, either by topping their group or through the playoffs. They clearly aren’t great. You’ve just reeled off 4 players there of which 3 are average, not sure what point you’re trying to make with that one.

Even worse tbh, taking off our best player for Sterling at 2-1 down.
Both not great, and definitely a surprise he was withdrawn, but not really 'worse', as at least at 1-2 down it's case of 'well we're losing, so something hasn't quite worked out". I doubt France would have withdrawn Giroud on Sunday at 0-0.

The subs were on the touchline ready to come on at 1-1 so it was his plan to bring them on then. They came on after the France goal, so he didn’t readjust to suit the game state. He is the worst in-game manager in the world.

Beating Croatia in the first group game was a good result, I’ll give him that, but we could’ve lost that game and still topped the group so it’s not really the same scenario as a knockout game is it.
Theoretically, yes. In reality, they wouldn't have topped the group had they lost though.
