I think you're going over the top for a total none issue here. Aren't Spain doing something similar with David Silva? And he's had nowhere near the impact Rooney has had on his respective national team. Also how much are you going to learn about your players by playing a friendly against the USA when you would more than likely rest the better players as they have a "competitive" game on the Sunday against quality opposition. I don't understand the fume tbh.
Also upon a little bit of research (typing in the words "Peter Shilton testimonial england" into google) it seems he also had a testimonial so renders the Peter Shilton point mute.
If it's such a none issue why are you bothering about it Parker?, I feel it is an issue and I respect your opinion.
My point is getting lost here, I am not saying that Rooney himself should not get a special game what I am saying that nobody should be brought back specially to use an international fixture as a form of testimonial, have some sort of testimonial if you really must but don't feature it as an England international where players are earning caps for it ,it entirely demeans the importance and honour of playing for your country.
It is my opinion not a statement.
Rooney was quite rightly lauded on the night of his 100 caps and his record haul of goals and I thank him for that, but I think it should have been left there.
Can I make it clear I have never had a problem with Rooney playing for England, he gave great service and feel he retired at the right time, however I merely feel it should have been left at that as now 2 years or so after is last cap to be brought back is simply embarrassing IMHO.
