I can understand peopel being confused. The way I see it it's 4-4-2 in attack, 4-3-3 in defence which is why you see Kone coming wide when we haven't got the ball.

I've seen Kone defend deep on the wing, and defending in a 4-2-3-1 - I think Kone's being given a free ish role on the right and Cleverley is given room to drift inside as well. Kone does give us box presence and width, he looks something like the player who played for Wigan.
