Some of these young lads

Im less worried about our centre half optioins now after seeing Duffys performence, he has the physical, presence, the awareness and a good positional sense, his legs got the better of him in the final 20 mins - but at 17 thats fair enough, more then any of that though you could just tell he just wanted it, his attitude was superb.

The future bodes well for our defence with Duffy and Coleman both impressing when givin their chances. I think Bidwell is in a good shout as well - i dont think hes a full back but at 16 he showed glimpses of being a good player against seniors and hes one big chunk of muscle for a youg lad.

Baxter hit a few high notes too, if he can develop a little more he could be a Leon Osman type of player maybe a bit better.

I agree with what most are saying. I thought Duffy played well, baxter and forshaw in patches. Osman and coleman also played well.

I thought it was a slow paced game with plenty of opitunity to get the ball down and pass it about, when ossie got the ball and in other little spells we played some lovely pass and move football and nearly scored at the end.

What was dissapointing was how easily we gave the ball away.
carlo nash kicked the ball long every time except one time which never gave our midfield a chance. this was a very poor tactic in europe and i feel it sold some of our players short as it limited their chances to impress.

I'm not convinced by Baxter every time I see him he's never convinced me that he has what is needed...............he's a bit cock sure of himself at times, that is not necessarily a bad thing if you can back it up and to date he hasn't. I feel he could be the new JPK

Its crossed my mind mate the JPK thing, hes been hyped beyond beleif which the lad cant be blamed for, Ray Hall didnt help with his Rooney comments. I like the way hes not afraid to be involved but as yet he hasnt shown that wow factor we all expected, bar that wonder goal against forest in a preseason. He has a touch of the almosts about him like Ossie.

I like some of the pockets of space he finds for himself and the way he tries to be positive, but he can seem to drift a bit in and out of games - maybe thats to be expected due to his age. It will depend on how he develops as fans we always want to microwave players in to instant stars, when really they need the slow heat treatment to develop - he has time on his side and at the mo he can hold his own with his peers. I can see him maybe being an option in the next few seasons depending on his development, perhaps the inside forward system Moyes is tending to use with Billy and Pienaar, possibly as cover. He looks very one paced which is fine if you have the quality and vision to supplement that (i thought his delivery the other night was very hit and miss) we just havnt seen it at senior level yet despite what he has acheived at club and international youth level and the question remains can he get there. to be honest i don't think he's best played as a striker, he defends well and passes well, i could see him as a winger or maybe even in a playmaker role better. at any rate give it time, theres no reason to judge yet, his time will come, and if not we still have a ton of other young players to be really excited about.

He's clearly better than Kissock, Kissock was three years older than him and Baxter was still ahead of him in terms of getting on the bench and being involved in the first team.

Physically Baxter is also alot bigger than Kissock, even Osman is. I'm guessing his size would've gone against him big time, we've seen how someone like Osman just about copes with the physicality of the Premier League.

But Baxter is nothing like Rooney, I saw Rooney at 15-16 and he was better than Baxter in every area. That's not a bad thing, Rooney's different class to most young talents coming through. He had the ability but he also had that burst of pace and he was already built like a man.

Baxter clearly has ability though, he is very similar to Osman. And that's not a bad thing, I've said it before, technically Osman is one of the best English players in the League.
