Neville out?
Hibbo out?
Carsley out?
Anichebe out?
Cahill over the hill and injury prone or massively key player?
Arteta unsettled and slump in form down to this?
Jageilka now awesome but when we bought him was totally crap?
Yobo now totally crap when before was awesome?
Lescott awesome full stop?
Gravesen and Gardner? WTF?
Good riddance to McFadden or should have had another 5 years?

Yak better than AJ? Or is this a kneejerk frustration thing?
Vaughn to do something next year or out?
Manny in?
Pienaar in?

and do you think we are way too hard on our team?
Do you think weve put together some great unbeaten runs this year, and we are only now just feeling the reverse? Whereas in seasons gone we eroded our form much earlier from the end?
5th place, decent runs, no silverware but getting ever closer?

Not good enough?

Lescott awesome full stop?

Ignoring the goals he has conceded and possession given away due to lack of concentration of course.

Hey, every other player gets slagged off for soemthing i thought he might of been feeling left out! He is lucky that the good far far outweighs the bad.

Neville out? Perhaps
Hibbo out? No way, if anything I think he's showed he deserves to be an everton player, despite a few mistakes i trust him in our back 4
Carsley out? Let him log some substitute appearances, though we should be looking to replace. at the moment he seems to be the only one who can shoot from distance, though little has come of it yet
Anichebe out? nowhere near as good of a season as last year, but he's young we have to give him time.
Cahill over the hill and injury prone or massively key player? massively key
Arteta unsettled and slump in form down to this? he'll bounce back
Jageilka now awesome but when we bought him was totally crap? truth
Yobo now totally crap when before was awesome? wouldn't say totally, but i agree with you, jagielka doesn't play offensively enough when he has ability, while yobo tries to play offensively though he clearly lacks the skill for it.
Lescott awesome full stop? couple key mistakes, lost us the carling cup, but c'mon thats he's been our best player this term no question.
Gravesen and Gardner? WTF?
Good riddance to McFadden or should have had another 5 years? should have had another 5, or atleast should have been sold for much more.

Yak better than AJ? Or is this a kneejerk frustration thing? I'd say kneejerk, though yak has tons more goals AJ works much harder, i will admit AJ seems to be lacking in pace a bit as of late, and that really is his main redeeming quality.
Vaughn to do something next year or out? too much of a young talent to let go.
Manny in? didn't think i'd say it but he won me over
Pienaar in? no question

and do you think we are way too hard on our team? yup

we didn't finish 4th and might not even manage 5th but i think we successfully moved towards shedding the yoyo title with 2 high league finishes in a row. next year i want to push for 4th again, i hope we can manage atleast one win this term so we can have some encouragement for next year, but once cahill arteta osman and AJ are all fit at the same time i don't see many teams stopping us.

So many questions McBain! I would not get rid of Neville, Carsley, Hibbert or Anichebe. Only if a very good offer came in I would. They IMO would be good squad players and should get somewhere between 10-20 games each as back-up to a first 11. They would each have some osrt of niche to perform for the team - like Anichebe coming on in Europe and hitting the opposition with something they had not expected. For Hibbert, Neville and Carsley the would take the field whenever we expect a dogfight with a tough team.

Cahill IMO is a key member of our squad, but I think he will continue to struggle with injuries - or that injury - for the rest of his career. We therefore need someone who can replace him without the team suffering. For me that person is Osman, who I believe is not good enough for a starting place. He has skill yes, but his time on the ball is too slow and you get the feeling that the play slows down when he does not pass it at the first chance. Otherwise a move for Kevin Nolan at Bolton would allow us to have a box-to-box midfielder to rely upon when Cahill is injured and put pressure on him.

As I have said in another thread we need to put Jags in the RB position, meaning that we can field Jags - Yobo - Lescott - Baines as our backline. All comfortable on the ball, pacey and able to take part in the attacking. Yobo is still our best CB IMO, but I love Jags' all action style.

Hopefully Vaughan will be ready for an assault on the Premiership from the beginning of next season, he is a super talent and only needs to stay injury-free. Yak and him would be awesome, each with pace and a predator instinct for goals.

Gravesen and Gardner are a joke. The Chelsea match showed me why Moyes has been relunctant to play Gravesen - he just can't hack it anymore. Gardner has been injured all the while his loan to us.

At the start of the season we had Stubbs and McFadden as squad players and neither has been replaced. Add to that Gravesen, Gardner and van der Meyde and you're looking at Moyes getting at least five new players just to fill up the spaces within the squad with players actually able to do a job. For me those reserve positions would be taken up by Hibbert, Neville, Carsley, Anichebe, Gosling and Rodwell. This would leave Moyes with the task of finding 5 new players who would be able to challenge for a starting place week-in-week-out. I would sell AJ if we could recoup the 8.6 m. we paid for him. Add the 5.5 for McFadden and Kenwright putting in another £20 m. would leave us with roughly £35 m..

Around £10 m. would be used to get Fernandes and Piennar. Both will be vital for a sustained fight for 4th place. Fernandes is class and will become a world-beater not doubt about it.
We don't need a new RB as some think. If Jags plays there, we would have cover for that position in Neville, Hibbert, Gosling and even Yobo.
Get two of either Jimmy Bullard, Steven Reid, Paul Scharner or Kevin Nolan in so that even when Cahill is out, there will be someone with drive and determination to bring the ball forward. Each would probrably cost £3-4 m. Leaving us with the task of buying another creative midfielder and striker. Kallstrom would fit the bill of a creative midfielder, usable either central or on the left. If we can get him for £5-6 m. it would be a snip. Getting a striker capable of challenging Yak and Vaughan for a starting place will be diffcult, but with £10-15 m. it should be possible, and Crouch and Ebanks-Blake is not what we're looking for. One player I mentioned years ago is the Egyptian Mohammed Zidan, who used to play in Denmark. He is the best dribbler I have ever seen, faster than AJ even with the ball and an eye for goal. He is currently playing in Germany and would add a total new dimension to our team around £6 m. would be enough to get him. The rest I would use to try and get Guti or Deco from Real Madrid and Barcelona, to add that extra dimension in attack.

So to sum up:
Out:
van der Meyde
Gravesen
Gardner
AJ

In:
Jimmy Bullard or Kevin Nolan or Steven Reid or Paul Scharner
Kallstrom
Zidan
Guti or Deco

That should leave us with cover in midfield, defense and attack. There will be competion for places in both a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 formation. The less changing of the backline the better, but there will be cover in Valente, Hibbert, Neville, Gosling and Scharner(if we get him).

Havent started a thread in here for a while so here goes.

Based on this season...

Neville out? Probably
Hibbo out? No, I am not a Hibbo hater. He lacks going forward, he's great at the back.
Carsley out? Only if we can find a replacement. Not easy, as his position is almost unique.
Anichebe out? I'd put him out on a season long loan with a top championship side
Cahill over the hill and injury prone or massively key player? Massive
Arteta unsettled and slump in form down to this? No, form due to injury, nothing else. Stop reading Shitetalk.
Jageilka now awesome but when we bought him was totally crap? Awesome
Yobo now totally crap when before was awesome? Don't agree he's crap, but he hasn't moved to the "next" level.
Lescott awesome full stop? yes
Gravesen and Gardner? WTF? Get rid asap
Good riddance to McFadden or should have had another 5 years? Have a good life faddy, oh, and shut the door on your way out.

Yak better than AJ? Or is this a kneejerk frustration thing? Different type of strikers, no fair to compare them.
Vaughn to do something next year or out? Vaughan, injury free will become our greatest ever Evertonian.
Manny in? Yes, but not at £12m. Took too long to regain fitness, which would be a worry for me, but he's getting his game back.
Pienaar in? Silly question, having seen Hleb play, I can see why he was purchased to replace him at Dortmund. THey must be made getting rid at £2.2m, but he will become a legend.

and do you think we are way too hard on our team? Yes
Do you think weve put together some great unbeaten runs this year, and we are only now just feeling the reverse? Whereas in seasons gone we eroded our form much earlier from the end? Yes
5th place, decent runs, no silverware but getting ever closer? Yes

Top six finish

Based on this season...

Neville out? Squad player at best next season
Hibbo out? Yes, not good enough for the next level step
Carsley out? Yes, legs have gone, needs replacing
Anichebe out? On loan i would say.
Cahill over the hill and injury prone or massively key player? For £10m, sell.
Arteta unsettled and slump in form down to this? Played with injuries a lot this season, will bounce back
Jageilka now awesome but when we bought him was totally crap? Far from awesome, good defender, no composure.
Yobo now totally crap when before was awesome? Never awesome, never totally crap either.
Lescott awesome full stop? Again, not awesome, made some mistakes, but who doesn't ?
Gravesen and Gardner? WTF? Can't rate Gardner, never seen him, Gravesen..goodbye.
Good riddance to McFadden or should have had another 5 years? Should have stayed, but nobody can see into the future.

Yak better than AJ? Or is this a kneejerk frustration thing? AJ nowhere near as good as Yak. Strikers as judged on goals.
Vaughn to do something next year or out? Hopefully do something, i do fear the worst though.
Manny in? At around £8m, yes. Not at £12m.
Pienaar in? For £2.2m ? Who the hell wouldn't !

and do you think we are way too hard on our team? Name a fan who isn't
Do you think weve put together some great unbeaten runs this year, and we are only now just feeling the reverse? Whereas in seasons gone we eroded our form much earlier from the end? Form dips near the end are common place with Everton.
5th place, decent runs, no silverware but getting ever closer? Solidifying our place in the top 6. Good enough for me

Not good enough? Yes, we are, just not a good enough squad to compete.

Over all the fickle fan opinions about who great and whos not? Again, common place in all teams.

Next years expectations? Top 6 again please.

Over to you.

As long we get in the right people next season, we will have a good shout with a cup, but being top 6 again means more to me.

If we got rid of everyone there'd be no one to moan at, creating the perfect football club with the fans living in an everlasting Utopia.

Sounds like sense to me

Based on this season...

Neville out?
-No however if we collapse and don't go to Europe perhaps. However he'll be needed for minutes in a long season.

Hibbo out?
-No: Crap at the beginning of the season. However is improving. Teams kill us going at Neville and Hibbo when they are both on the pitch at the same time.

Carsley out?
-No way: Rarely makes mistakes against lousy. He's a big reason why we don't pull a Boro and lose to teams we should beat. However he can't handle the better Top 4 teams with pace. We do need to groom a replacement however he's got a quality season or 2 left in him.

Anichebe out?
-No. A quality reserve striker. He says he likes coming on as a reserve too so won't complain about the lack of minutes

Cahill over the hill and injury prone or massively key player?
-Massively key player: We just can't rely on him to play 2/3 of our matches

Arteta unsettled and slump in form down to this?
-Maybe unsettled and fighting off nagging injuries: if best buddy Xabi Alonso leaves (he doesn't like Benetez) I think next year is Arteta's last season. Athletico might make a bid for him. They are thin in the midfield and are in 4th place so they might have C-League football and the cash to get him. Unless we get an absurd amount of money offer for him I can't see Moyes selling him next year.

Jageilka now awesome but when we bought him was totally crap?
-He said he was unsettled when he 1st came in plus we made the mistake of playing him in a different postion every week when he 1st came in. I was always a believer and was doing cartwheels when he was signed. He was a hell of a player on Sheff Utd.

Yobo now totally crap when before was awesome?
-Still has his brain farts but still has class.

Lescott awesome full stop?
-Why Ashley Cole is considered the better English LB I'll never know. Lescott is ace even playing out of position.

Gravesen and Gardner? WTF?
-I've always liked Gravesen, he was always one of my favorites. However his legs are shot. He's played decent at times coming off the bench though.

Good riddance to McFadden or should have had another 5 years?
-Will miss him and wanted to keep him as he was the only striker who could create a goal out of nothing. However he deserved a chance to start on another team. Maybe he'll come back if Brum gets relegated?

Yak better than AJ? Or is this a kneejerk frustration thing?
-Yak is alot better than AJ.

Vaughn to do something next year or out?
-Vaughn will do something next year. I just hope that something isn't breaking his leg.

Manny in?
-If we can get him cheap yes.

Pienaar in?
-yes; definitely as long as his agent doesn't cause his head to swell.

and do you think we are way too hard on our team?
-on this board no

Do you think weve put together some great unbeaten runs this year, and we are only now just feeling the reverse? Whereas in seasons gone we eroded our form much earlier from the end?
-We are beat up lost too many key players and are out of gas. When healthy we finally had a team who would hold their own against anyone in the league.

5th place, decent runs, no silverware but getting ever closer?
-The top 4 keep spending more and more money. Plus NUFC, Villa, Spurs, Man City and Pompey can outspend us now so perhaps not getting closer to a C-League place. Silverware: hard to tell, probably the Carling is the most realistic. Not sure if we have the depth and I'm not sure we can keep our key players healthy enough to make it though the UEFA knockout stages or have the gas to make it to a FA cup final.

Not good enough?
-Not good enough to finish in the top 3. 4th yes.

Over all the fickle fan opinions about who great and whos not?
yes

Next years expectations?
-6th and one long cup run.

Over to you. _____________

My thoughts on our squad. and if they should be with us next season.

Howard (in) Great shot stopper but needs to control his area better from crosses etc and better distribution.

Hibbert (out) Not even good enough for the championship, steals a living as a footballer. good at last ditch tackles but thats because his postitianal play is so bad, can't control a ball, panics when in possession and never passes to an everton player. moyes will keep him because he will pay him about £10 a week (which is £10 to much)

Neville (in) good defender with good positional play gets up and down the line well, good leader. bad points- can't pass.

Yobo (in) Apart from the odd lapse in concentration does't do much wrong.
Ball distribution could be better.

jags (in) reads the game better than any other in our defence. needs to work on distribution.

Lesscott (in) will be a regular england international in the future. wasted at LB

Baines (in) loved this lad at wigan he will be a star for us.

Artetta (in) Class

Osman (in) on his day can turn a game. never controls a game.

Carsley (out) runs around alot diving in and making some important tackles. has no other depth to his game and not quick enough.

Pienaar (in) can't take a player on but has great vision and a really crisp passer.

Manny (in) once settled this guy will light up goodison park and become a star player. (remember it took henry and drogba over 12 monthe to settle and look what they become)

Cahill (in) Will get us 10+ goals a season from midfield. cant pass tho.

Yakubu (in) holds the ball well and brings other players into the game, strong and will score lots of goals.

AJ (out) runs around alot and gives 100% thats about it.championship player.

Vaughn (In)great talent not sure if body is strong enough (Very injury prone)

Anachebe (out) cant jump, cant control the ball and has no vission. He is strong and has a decent shot.

I know ive missed a couple but they have not been involved as much as the above.

Havent started a thread in here for a while so here goes.

Based on this season...

Neville out?
Out of midfield, he's a poor passer but I think if we had some quality in the CM available for a short pass this flaw would not be so easily highlighted.

Hibbo out?
Yes, for me he's a 3rd choice at RB. I agree with the post recommending a back line of Jagielka-Yobo-Lescott-Baines as first choice, with Lescott as cover for Baines who has picked up injuries fairly regularly since arriving, and then Neville to come in at RB with Jagielka moving into the centre. However I don't know how well Jag would do at RB, he was uncomfortable there, but now he's more settled, perhaps he would be more confident at trying RB. He's difficult to get around and has good pace.

Carsley out?
No, but in the squad as cover for new CM players x2

Anichebe out?
He's still young, can't be written off despite not being great recently, he did do very well in Europe, we shouldn't forget.

Cahill over the hill and injury prone or massively key player?Key player who should be kept hold of. I've said before if he is fracturing bone the area of injury is stronger after the break, so I'm guessing that he's being rushed back each time, and that this is our fault for letting him play when he needs to rest fully. I think now he's out for the season he will have this rest.

Arteta unsettled and slump in form down to this?Injured and admirably playing through the pain, summer break to get back to 100% Our best player.

Jageilka now awesome but when we bought him was totally crap?
Bizarre positional decisions by Moyes unsettled a player used to being a starter and captain at Sheff Utd. Very good now, and still young (24?)

Yobo now totally crap when before was awesome?I think he's managed to cut out the errors from his game recently

Lescott awesome full stop?
Yes, I think it's important to get him regularly in at CB to keep him happy. Fantastic goal contribution. Again a young CB so I think he will improve with experience, esp. in Europe and perhaps with England.

Gravesen and Gardner? WTF?
Difficult to defend!

Good riddance to McFadden or should have had another 5 years?
Good luck to him, I won't miss him however.

Yak better than AJ? Or is this a kneejerk frustration thing?AJ is the victim of his own flexibility, running after long balls and lost causes. Yakubu is quite right to not run after these long balls, as when AJ does it vindicates the players making the passes, and they continue to do so. Eventually Yakubu will force our team to pass to him in a different, more effective way. I do think Yakubu is better anyhow.

Vaughan to do something next year or out?One more big injury and I think we'll have to write him off.

Manny in?
Yes, but I don't think he will be bought as the price will be too high for Moyes. I don't know why people are suggesting that we bid less for him, the price will not come down from the one we had agreed to pay last year!

Pienaar in?
If we fail on this one then we really have negotiation problems

and do you think we are way too hard on our team? No.

Do you think weve put together some great unbeaten runs this year, and we are only now just feeling the reverse? Whereas in seasons gone we eroded our form much earlier from the end?Yes we were very good in spells, our current form is normal for a tired team, unused to extra cup campaigns with key players injured

5th place, decent runs, no silverware but getting ever closer? We'll have to reflect on that when the season finishes.

Next years expectations?Top 5

Over to you.

Alles Sehen

We shouldn't be looking to get rid of many players. The likes of Gravesen, Van der Meyde and Gardner yes but not the likes of Neville, Hibbert, Carsley or Anichebe. Our squad is too small to be getting rid of the players mentioned and we don't have the financial backing to have a complete overhaul of the squad. We should be making the likes of Carsley and Neville squad players by bringing there younger, more talented replacements in.

The only one I could see leaving is Carsley and it would be down to personal reasons more than anything. I think he'd rather be playing week in week out at his age and he shouldn't be guaranteed that. There also the fact that he could be playing week in week out for a team like Wolves and also live closer to his family in Birmingham.

I think the midfield is priority over the summer. It needs to be improved badly. A defensive midfielder, a right back, a striker, Pienaar and Fernandes should be what where looking for in my opinion.

But if we can replace the likes of Neville with a more talented, cheaper squad player, then why not get rid of him? We could sell Pip onto a promoted team, I'm sure.
