I'm 34, relatively young (!)

my knowledge of Everton begins about in the 80's

The earliest game i can partially recall is the charity shield against LFC in 85, think this is the season we smashed UTD 5-0

Tell us what it was like please, for those younger than me, and those who just want to experience first hand the history!

It's hard to credit but in the early 60s we were the richest club in the country.I'll try to dig out an old article to scan that was in the Kenneth Wolstenholme Book of Soccer titled The Everton Millionaires. It seems like a lifetime ago..........:).

Very erratic numbers to away games. Some midweekers down south would have about 70 fans there on big open terraced pens so there was room to lie down. You'd get soaked, it would be too empty to get any atmosphere and so during the match it would be ****e to be honest.
Other matches there'd be 10000 going down.

Great thread!

Honestly new lids/young lids like me - READ YER SERMONS!

Also, i strongly advise you buy the official history DVD - fantastic watch.

Like Bry though, I wanna know some stories, something different if anyone can share anything. My first Everton game was in 1993, and 3-0 home defeat to QPR. All my life really i've grown up with Everton being garbage, only really the last 5 or so years have we been competitive and i've only ever seen us win the FA Cup in 1995 (although I have been alive when Everton won a title - I was 7 months old in May 1987)

I'm still here though and love us more than anything. Honestly Everton are so big in my life, would honestly say they are up there with the most important things in my life.

Anyway I've gone off on a tangent, anyone got anything different, share it lids!

I love the stories. My time with Everton started in 2004, so it's been pretty decent for me. I've never experienced us being truly ****e.

But I love the personal stories. It's what it's all about.

I stood in the enclosure (now family enclosure) with three friends for the 5-0 demolition of Man Utd in 84. Two of my friends were neutral, the other was a red hot manc with a fiery temper. It took several days before the game to convince him that he would be ok in the enclosure, so we all agreed to go with no colours. he was a tad miffed when we picked him up all decked out in blue and white, including the car! As each goal went in his head dropped lower and lower, in the second half he began lightly applauding our passing. On the way down Goodison Road after the game a very excited blue gave my manc mate a big hug assuming he was a blue and proceeded to tell him how he'd always wanted to stuff utd. I lent across and told him to go easy as he was a red to which he replied "Sorry mate but it was f**kin great". Strangely enough, he never came with us again!

Can't remember much that the teachers taught me but as an eight year old i went to Goodison for the final home game of the 69-70 season.
I had a cut off ladder so i could see properly leaning against the fence at the bottom of Gwladys st and a brand new pair of shoes for school.
The capacity in them days was just under 60k and it was a full house.
Colin Harvey (seriously underrated player) and Alan Whittle scored the two goals that won us the championship.
At the end of the game the crowd were going balistic and my arl fella threw me over the fence onto the pitch to avoid the crush and i lost one of me shoes which my mother still hasn't forgiven me for,but standing there on the pitch watching goodison rock will live with me forever.
Atmosphere wise that and the Bayern game were the best for me and that includes derby matches, cup finals v watford and mufc and the 5-0 v mufc.
Memories are made of these things. coyb
