You'd be homesick in a month and would go all weird upon realising that your nearest neighbours are in the Antarctic .
That's why their whole Nation up's-and-off's to Europe as soon as they are legally allowed . Always have .

The u.k. was the last place on my mind mate when i was over there, the day I left will go down as one of my downest days ever, and I didn't head straight back then, took me yonks and then i was off again after a month, in 7 years the longest i was here for was about 3 months while i waited for my n.z. residents permit to come through.
I don't regret coming back as we did it for the kids (kid at the time) as we didn't want them to grow up without any family (aunts/ uncles/ cousins/ grandparents etc ) and that still applies, but when things aren't going too well regarding work then i start to pine for what i had, which was the best job I've had and the only job I've had where I've enjoyed working for someone else.
Everything fell into place in N.Z. and we walked away from it all.

we were already over there mate, we decided we didn't want to deny them that.
now i couldn't imagine doing it with 3 kids, cos i've looked into it and it's hard to see how we could be any better off, we would have to work a lot more and thus the leisure time would be reduced. I was offered a job in Lower Hutt, the guy was gonna pay for all the relocation etc but at the end of the day we would've been worse off due to house prices, fantastic looking place but the sums didn't add up. I would've been based inside a prison as well so not exactly the best working environment.
I made out that I really wanted to go, to use as leverage for other purposes, which is why there are no complaints about season tickets & away games etc.

they get in touch with me still to see if i've changed my mind.

the aus gov have just binned loads of apps for residency, with some having been waiting for 3 years. Seems they are reassessing who they need, with the mines struggling to get workers to meet chinas demands, so if a good job came up with a good wage then who knows ?
