Sir Landon Of Donovan

I would be disappointed if a league like the MLS is seriously hurt from the possible loss of one player like Donovan. We will have to get used to this hopefully happening often in the future.

I think I read this in another thread but it would be nice if the MLS became even like the Dutch Eredivisie for example in becoming a perfect league to groom young talent from all over with a mixture of veterans coming to play towards the end of their careers when they still have a little gas in the engine. Sure, many players will move on to bigger leagues. I would think that would be a nice step for the MLS. That is just my opinion.

To the Galaxy supporters in the thread, I am not saying I hope Donovan goes to Everton just so that the Sounders gain an advantage on the Galaxy. We don't need it as we will rise again this season.b)

I'm a Utah Jazz fan,Chicago Cubs fan, Green Bay Packer fan, Real Salt Lake fan and now an Everton FC fan.

Not picking on you Shaggy (or trying to derail LD's thread), but dang if this doesn't just sum up nicely why football in the US struggles.

How many of our new Evertonian friends follow other teams with the passion they have for their Blues??

To finish, I will say that while LD has like 3 games left, I will continue to follow the Blues. I have gotten to know you, through your posts, and your fans, how much the team means to you all. I used to tune into whatever EPL games were broadcast and just watched the Arsenal, or MU to see good soccer. I will now forego them and hopefully watch and cheer on Everton. You have a very good team and your fans are a class act. Class on one hand because they did not just discount LD as another [Poor language removed] American player, you gave him a chance, and class on the other because of the way you handle your loses and wins, AND what you give to your team, your soul. I will be back, and I hope LD will be as well.

I had to quote this, because you've summed up my feelings exactly.

For all the reasons you've mentioned, I'm forever Everton, regardless if LD gets to stay or not. (But I'm praying he gets to come here permanently.)

COYB!

Also, I've already got my Everton No. 9 jersey - first time I wore it, he scored!

I hate every single team in the World apart from Everton.

haha! (y)

I used to have only one team, but then you have offseasons and stuff like that. Now i have a NCAA football team, a NFL team, MLS team, and now an EPL team. Good news is I never really have an offseason.

can't get into baseball though. I'd rather watch old people fornicate

I think Tim Howard might have an opinion on that...:P

and Brad Freidel.

I Disagree with this. Landon wanted to go to Europe to get ready for the World Cup and to get bought. I would be shocked if Sir Landon wasn't bought after the World Cup. If Sir Landon is back on loan next year, I would consider that a complete failure.

agreed. now that i'm a toffee myself (blush), i'd be pissed off if Moyes couldn't get it done in the next transfer window. I want LD on this team! (y)

Some of the replies in here are wonderful.

*Bows to American contingent.

lol, smack talk already? :D :P

I'll agree though, this whole thing transcends any competition stateside. For me this is about our homegrown players playing in the best leagues they can. The EPL is arguably the best league in the world (it is the best in my opinion), so why would he not want to play on the biggest stage? Donovan isn't motivated by money like some others are, he just wants to have fun while getting paid what he's worth. I really hope this gets done in the next transfer window.

I think I'm attracted to this type of team. Kinda sad.

I'm a Utah Jazz fan,Chicago Cubs fan, Green Bay Packer fan, Real Salt Lake fan and now an Everton FC fan. I'm a sucker for cheap teams.

eh, the Cubs are still in the upper echelon of payrolls in the MLB

Many of us don't have a local team to support. The closest team to me is a 10 hour round trip. Large landmass sprinkled with too few teams. In 150 years or so with steady growth I'm sure we can get there.

Sin City FC!

Not only that, but what about grooming for our national team. Sometimes you run your course in a job or in sports, a team. Donovan has basically accomplished all he can domestically and his growth is key to our USMT avenging the last World Cup display. Playing @ Everton I think is better for both Landon and the USMT than staying domestic.

By the local logic, Ronaldinho and Messi should just stay in the domestic Brazilian and Argentina leagues respectively. Truth be told, the MLS is a breeding ground moreso than a domestic powerhouse league at the moment. Hopefully that can change but thats for another topic.

Just watched all those goals, impressive i had no idea he could strike a good free kick, his pace is nothing short of electric,he reads the game well and most surprising of all he's an excellent header of the ball.
You Americans soccer fans are right, we have yet to see the best of landon donovan.
Moysie get this player signed up on a permanent basis asap.

This is great !!!

A year ago, we didn't have this many Americans on the site discussing one of America's top footballers playing for the greatest club in the world, Everton.

Now look at this place.

*getting all misty eyed here.
