As a benchmark to how much we paid, here is how much Robbie Keane is going for to Villa (from ESPN):

Keane's seven-week deal will net the Galaxy about $775,000, according to multiple British media reports. British wire service The Press Association last week said the deal could be worth as much as $1 million.

I'm thinking Landon probably cost a little bit more than that as I expect him to play more minutes than Robbie, and well, MLS overprices him.

But still, the $3 million figure that was thrown around for 2010 was probably too much as I don't seem him going for much more than Keane, and honestly, he was probably more affordable in 2010.

$1 million????? And potential sponsor subsidization.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be here if he costed 1M for 6 weeks.

Most likely £3m - £6m. The front end being if sponsors kick in and LD forces it. The tail end being MLS's asking value. He's got 2 years left on his contract, but 1 year realistically if MLS wants to get $$ for him.

5. Everton looks better with Landon
The Toffees have had little to celebrate this season, but recent additions of Darron Gibson ($1.5m from Manchester United) and Landon Donovan (loaned from the L.A. Galaxy) are giving David Moyes' side a much-needed menace in midfield.

Gibson's passing range and calmness are strong foils alongside the manic man-marking and aggression of Marouane Fellaini, while the U.S. national team star looked comfortable on Everton's right flank. Donovan's sweet 69th-minute pass set sub Victor Anichebe free to score past Shay Given (who also impressed in his return after injury) and ensure that the Toffees got the point they deserved, though all game long his crossing and cerebral wing play induced panic in the Villa Park faithful -- especially when Alan Hutton hauled down Louis Saha in a penalty-worthy move after the Frenchman pursued a Donovan pull-back.

Moyes will do well to extract as much use -- and as many points -- from the American's second cameo at Goodison Park over the next two months.
 

It's favourable reviews like this that in the long run, if we tried to broker a deal, could work against us. If and it's a huuuuge IF, the impossible became possible and we put a bid in for him, our main stumbling block could well be that : "Everton right now, need LD more than he needs them." - which would then cause a sh*t storm come pricing and wage structuring. We've all seen how our play is much more dynamic and attacking with LD in the team, once he goes in late Feb, we all know we are going to struggle to find that 'spark' of creativity and vitality, that we are enjoying right now in abundance.

If we could and pray we could, some how work a deal, were we buy LD NOW and buyout his contract over a period of time, I think he'd go for it big time and so would his sponsors and the MLS. He knows, he's loved here and he loves us equally right back.To me, That's half the battle won (y)(y)
 
Hes going to leave such a big hole when he goes again.

Would be softened if we could do a deal for pienaar coming back but I kinda get a bit of a feeling that signing one or the other is going to be very important to this and future seasons.

this is the start of the process i hoped might happen. If LA wants Lampard (or any other DP) they will need to get rid of one of their current 3 (Beckham, Keane, and LD). If LD wants to come LA is starting to float that they had other plans for that spot as well so he could "go gracefully" without either side looking like they are hurting each other...

It is all early, but this is exactly how LD's exit from LA had to start...
 
Great article chriswho. The logical 'odd-man out' would be Landon. Keane signed only 6 months ago, Landon has already said he'd love to come to the Premiership (ie: EVERTON!) when his contract ends after next season, but what is the perfect scenario? Him asking to stay at Goodison right now!

Tim Leiweki calls the shots at the Galaxy. When he says he's interested in Lampard, that is code for them flat-out wanting them. Lampard has already spoken about looking to come to the MLS, it's the perfect scenario. If Landon approves of it, Everton should approach the MLS. I don't think it would take all that much money to buy out his rights, perhaps something around $4-mill I would guess, that's just my guess.

Maybe Moyes is enticing Landon to stay by bringing in close buddy Buddle? b)
