Sir Landon Of Donovan

I would like to point out something interesting for all of you. I hope Kay reads this and puts in her two cents.

La Galaxy are set to resign Beckham. Keane is there and Donovan is there. They are allowed to have 3 Designated Players ( Pay them as much as you want, only counts so much to the salary cap). I have been reading how Beckham is trying to get Lampard to go to LA. Lampards Fiance is in the media and would be a boost to her career to move to LA.

What does this mean. This means that they would have to get rid of Keane or Donovan if someone would take them off their hands. I would see Donovan not being sold for an outragous price if they really want Lampard. Seeing as the sponsors for Donovan would probably help in the deal.

Just throwing it out there. Hope for Lampard to go to LA Galaxy and that LA have to sell LD that would be the best situation!!!!!

I wrote this initial long response that had reasons why I didn't think this could happen in MLS, poor timing: need 3 DPs for CCL play, LA wants 3 DPs at all times, Everton can't afford to buy Landon in January, MLS has the 3 DP rule, yada yada yada.

Then I remembered Juan Pablo Angel.

In 2011, LA had 3 DPs until the summer transfer season: LD, Becks and JPA. When JPA turned into a lemon, the Galaxy shipped him off to Chivas USA during transfer season and brought in Robbie. LA was stuck paying some portion of JPA's salary as a result. Technically that's 4 DPs on the books in terms of salary paid. But 3 DPs on the roster and following the rules.

Could something like this be worked out? I.e. Landon "traded" to Everton so that LA could bring in Lampard? Doubt it as it's not within MLS, there are league rules, and I don't see LA paying for Landon to go on boondoggle, but who knows how these contracts could work as long as Landon is not on the books? Then Landon is allowed time to perform, we can make sure he's still got it, and the official fee is paid in the summer. BUT, that means he would need to go *somewhere* if Lampard is brought in as eventually the 3 DP rule catches up with LA.

Ultimately, I just don't think we'll have the money and he'll go back. I hope he makes the decision difficult with stellar play. But I don't know if there's enough time to do it.

Watch this space. :)

You're so talented Hsd.

Galaxy have plenty of star power, just won a championship, and MLS can still get a sizable fee for Donovan. It is a good time for him to leave, not that Everton would pay the fee necessary or he would leave.

This.

Just put this in the match thread, but in the knower on Big Soccer (and they are an ITKer) says LD is starting.

Hsd, great drawings, as always.

Kay20 - I agree with your analysis of the dp rules and ld's chances of transfer. I find it hard to believe that LD wouldn't be the DP LA want most, being young and American. I do wonder if Landon is getting fed up with the "stars" coming to la making more and delivering less. with Beck's resigning and these rumors of lamps and drogba, I wonder if maybe just maybe LD wanted to test us out again, see if the magic is still here, and then if it is, force his way out of LA. Seems like a mighty longshot, but stranger things have happened.

Let's also not forget that if LA wants to keep Omar Gonzalez, they're gonna have to stump up the coin. Is he DP material? Debatable. But something (other than another rule change) has to give in LA. I'd love for it to be Landon to Everton on a permanent deal.

It would have to come to that chriswho. I don't think he cares a hills worth of beans about the other stars - he understands how the market works, and he has his endorsement millions anyway. He's always said he makes "enough" money and doesn't seem like a money grabber.

But the rumors have been loud this offseason, making me think that LA has something in the works. Might have just been a backup plan, mind you.

But first things first:
1) he needs to succeed here in his 2nd stint
2) he would have to force his way out.

So, until the end of Jan, we are where we are.

I love Omar, but he's not a DP [yet]. All signs point towards him leaving for Europe after this season anyway - he has been quoted saying he wants to go (and it's Europe, not Mexico, according to "No Short Corners"). His contract is up after this season, so MLS needs to sell this year to avoid a Stu Holden. Question is where.

LA's DP strategy has always been to get big names from abroad, or American stars. Omar is neither just yet.

You are a fan of the NY Yankees of the MLS... I would hate to be you :P

I seriously hope he plays well and LA grabs Lampard and Landon is like I can go to Everton for a few years and come back.... best case scenrio... won't happen.

I'm thinking along these lines as well. Not to mention, didn't I read here (I know I read it on twitter) that Nike is the uniform supplier next season. Just seems so convenient like.

I gotta balance out Everton somehow. :P (You should be getting a new coach soon yourself).
